Speaker volume cutting out

DesertNuggets

Lately the speaker volume on my 705 has been cutting in and out... Loose connection in the control box?

I haven't dropped it and it has the enviro cover.

I noticed my 705 volume lowers too. It is about a month old.
I credited to my inexperiance with the unit.
I will be watching this to learn from it.
Thank you

Could be a loose connection. But you should be able to tell if it is a loose wire type connection by moving the detector around. If it doesn't happen everytime you move the detector in a certain way, I'd guess it is the contact point on the headphone jack. When you plug in a set of headphones, it opens a set of contacts on the jack assembly, which shuts off the speaker. If you happen to have gotten a bit of dust or something in that jack, it could be interfering with the speaker "connection". I ain't going to tell you how to work on your detector....... but if it were mine, I'd take out the batteries, and blow some sust remover air into the hole where the headphones plug in. If that didn't do the trick, I'd probably resort to putting a little bit of rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner on my headphone plug (or a swab) and stick it in and out of the jack several times. Wipe it off and repeat that process. If this didn't fix it, I'd probably take the four little screws out of the housing, remove the back side and see if either of the speaker wires were loose. Like I said, I ain't recommending you do ANY of these things. I'm just telling you what I'd do if it were mine. JMO HH Randy

........yeah...as Randy said.....probably a loose or dry solder joint.......

Gaz.

I looked down into one of those holes on my 705 and it is a Phillips. It also looked like it could accommodate a small straight slot as well. So I stuck one in the hole and it seemed to grab 'hold. However, if you are as lucky as I am, use a Phillips as you get twice as many chances to strip the head. :rage: Seriously, a small #1 or #0 Phillips worked fine on mine. HH Randy

My Xterra 505 is doing the same thing, but not with the headphones. Only does it when I'm not using the headphones. Seems like if I tap it a bit, the sound comes back. So I believe that it's a poor solder joint. Haven't taken it apart yet to see if that's the case. I'll probably wait until tapping doesn't "fix" it any more.

Shes all fixed! And louder than ever! Must have been a bad connection from the get go.

I didn't see any bad connections so I tightly wrapped electrical tape around the wires/connector on the speaker that slides into the circuit board and placed a strip of electrical tape over the two connections on the back of the speaker.

I used a 60 phillips which is I think a #1 to unscrew the box.

Cheers! :clapping:
