Spent 2.5 hours in a park today after work and all I found was a damn jefferson nickel. Too many flippin explorer users in this area!

They're the worst, Got brains or they wouldn't have the machine, deadly combo.

Jeremy,
First off, don't be intimidated by what the others are using.I used to do the same thing. You are out to have a good time and find some good stuff.I have been detecting since 1970.Believe me no one gets it all.I have seen a lot of metal detectors in the field, and one thing for sure, everybody doesn't know how to use them. You have to disipline your thinking. Most detectorists will detect the most accessible areas.LOOK at the layout of the land and see if there is a not so accessible area and detect that area. The people that does things a little bit different,is the ones that are the winners.Go slow, overlap your loop on each swing.Cross the area at right angles. You may miss stuff in one direction, but coming in from another direction you may pick it off.HH.

Thanks. Yeah I know, I am out there for the fun of it, but its a little discouraging to constantly find nothing but memorial cents and clad coins when you've done so much research and thought you found some great places to look. Come to find out, they WERE great places, they've just been picked over.
I am determined to find some good coins with this unit, and to do that, I'll have to keep looking for those places that others might have overlooked, and take it nice and slow.
I've been spending more time researching than I have been detecting, so those of you in STL better watch out <img src="/metal/html/tongue.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":b">
