split screen?

Does anybody know what is going on with my machine? I have an Ex II and it all of a sudden has a malfunction. The screen is split and off centered with the right side a lot lower than the left. Is this a warranty issue?

I would think so...Actually you have a mini computer and may need to be rebooted...What I would do is turn the unit on and remove the battery leave out for about 5 minutes, put battery back in and turn on. At least thats one way I know of rebooting the unit and of course may be other ways...Minelab U.S.A. will surely help if you contact them and may have other ways of correcting the problem. If not might have to go in for warranty work...Imagine a weak battery could cause the problem also so would try with alkalines abd your rechargeable...

First time I used mine with the sunray I got the split screen when I turned the machine on. I thought what the heck!!! But then I looked and saw my probe switch was on probe.Switched it to coil, turned my Explorer off then back on and never had another problem.

Hi oldcellar,

Quite a few of us have had the same problem with our SEs, I rang Minelab Australia and they asked me to send it back to them.
The end result was that they replaced the Display and returned it to me, I haven't had any problems with it since.
The turn around time was 7 working days and I'm very happy with their service.

All the best

I have had the same problem with mine , the thing that annoyed me was the detector has done it from new , it is a really annoying problem and tends to happen usually when you are editing or adjusting your screen. Also it happens when just searching without touching any control pads. I have read more and more posts about this problem lately.

I'm curious as to why, if it's done it since new AND annoys you, why have you not exercised your warranty and gotten it fixed?

My Explorer II never did it. My Explorer SE did it ONE TIME...months ago, shortly after I bought it...and never did it again. It was a cold day out when it did it, maybe like 25 or 30. I attributed it to the cold working on the LCD.

I didn't like the fact that i had to pay the postage fees that's why i didn't send it back, if some one sells a new item that is duff then they should foot the bill for the postage (in my opinion). Now my machine is out of warranty i had to buy a new display from minelab and fitted it my self eventually just for the hell of it. Temperature has nothing to do with this fault i can assure you it's a gremlin that is UN fixable because my screen still splits in half even after fitting a new LCD display. My porsonal opinion with this problem is that it can be caused by things other than a faulty display.

Yeah, that "having to pay the postage" thing on a repair IS tough to swallow, but in fairness to Minelab, it's an industry-standard practice. At least they pay the postage back! And you have to also take into account that a lot of times folks will SAY that there's a problem with a machine when there's actually nothing wrong with it at all other than maybe a bad "U.S.E.R. Module", so I guess that's why they do that.
