Split Screens .... Try This

Hey folks, if you're getting a random split screen like the one JASONSPAZ1 has shown a picture of in his post then you might want to try this.
Yesterday I took my SE out and it did the same thing and it was 76 degrees outside so I don't think it's cold weather related.
I simply turned it OFF and then back ON and the screen cleared. But ...
After 3 hours of hunting with no problems it was time for a lunch break.

After lunch I turned the SE back ON and got the split screen again....
It suddenly dawned on me that my X-Terra had done the exact same thing before. I left it turned ON, went into the house and grabbed a anti-static dryer sheet from the laundry room, rubbed it all over the plastic control housing and watched the screen go back to NORMAL again.

I just folded the static sheet up and left it tucked under cover, can't even see it.

STATIC ELECTRICITY seems to be the culprit of all evil here

JASONSPAZ1 ... I hope you don't mind my using your picture for reference as my screen looked exactly as yours did.

Now I'm not saying this is a CURE all for everyone, some folks may have had hardware problems, but for screens like this one below I think it will work.
It did for me anyway. :)

Good Hunting
Mike

Some articles of clothing and shoes will produce more static electricity too. Earlier there was a post about detectors working better at night and maybe getting more depth. I know as a fact my SE is way more stable and accurate at night after the sun goes down, there seems to be less interference from the sun, solar flares and such, I don't know if I get more depth but in places I detected earlier that day, at night I go back over and the iffy signals turn out solid, no idea why.

Wow...now that's pretty amazing. Good sleuthing there man!

in Vegas and reported what happened, they will pass this info on to their techs & engineers to see if it has any merit.
We'll see in time.
I know static electricity can be transfered to digital screen readouts and make them act wierd, I've seen it to many times over the years.
Until then I'll keep the static sheet tucked away under the control cover.

Hi Mike,

Like you I have seen static electricity do strange things to LCDs and what you have done may be the answer, since Minelab replaced my screen I have had no more problems, maybe some displays a a little more susceptible to static electricity than others.

All the best....Boony
