Squeeky Handle

jimb

New member
Has any body had their handle start to squeek inside the grip when you swing it? It started a little while after I put on the EQ2 12 inch
coil. I find that coil easier to use than the stock one. I checked all the screws and shortened up the shaft for less stress but no luck.
Thanks for any input.

It could be the cam lock pad as the plastic plate inside wears.

Just purchase a replacement from your friendly dealer.

Tap out the brass pin remove the lever and fit the new pad its that easy.

There is a little trick which will stop it getting stressed and wearing.

This involves 3 plastic ties one around the camlock lever one higher up around the handle and the third on joins the two as one on the underside, tension them up and clip the ends.

Only God will move the camlock after this mod which looks neat and is on the underside out of sight.

Thanks
Thats the type of info I was looking for. I only started swinging it in January. I will give it a go and let you know what happens.

my lower shaft is loose and wobbles now and wont lock as tight as it did when the detector was new which was about 7 months ago, seems this is a part that needs MUCH improving.

I have had that happen also, but the reason for mine was that I use it in club hunts and have to swing it fast and that is why it started squeaking on mine. I fixed it by taking and putting electrical tape on the top of the shaft that goes into the head unit and down one side of it. If you try and put the tape on both sides it will be too much and the tape will start to wedge and clump up. I put 3 single layer rows down the shaft and haven't had the problem since. Hope this helps.

That is a very good idea there JBM. I will have to do that the next time I have a problem with mine. I know that I will need to do that at the hunt so the shaft will stay in the head. Part of the reason for it sliding out is that some of the paint is worn off of the shaft. I am also going to sand the top of the shaft sometime that goes into the head unit and see if I can get some powder coat spray paint and paint it. This will give it a roughness so it better grabs and holds the shaft. I sure like the way you have yours and will try that first though and thanks for the pic.
