St. Christopher whatzit

Found this two weekends ago at an old homesite. It says "St. Christopher Be My Guide." I have found St. Christopher medals before but this is not a medal. It is 2 1/2 x 1 1/8 and appears to have been attached to something?? It's not a belt buckle. Silver plated. Bent by farm implement. Any ideas? I'm curious. Thanks.
 
St. Christopher, of course, is the patron saint of travellers.
Below a description and pic of a St. Christopher dashboard badge, circa 1950's. At the link posted below, there are two of these badges, the other from the 30's. By the design on yours, it's a safe bet to say it is much older.
Both of the badges at this link have holes to attach it to the dashboard... your's doesn't???

This small, attractive sterling badge is decorated with blue enamel, bears the image of St. Christopher surrounded by the caption, "Regarde St. Christophe -
Puis Va T'en Rassure" (Look at St. Christopher - Then go in Reassurance". The reverse is stamped, "Made in England", with the maker's mark, "T&S" and with a full English sterling silver hallmark corresponding to the year 1953. Overall length (including lugs) : 39mm. Very good condition.<<<
 
Thanks for the info Steve! The area in which this was found almost had to be a pre-motorized vehicle site, though I can't be certain how long it was inhabited before it was abandoned. Any chance these were on buggy dashboards? <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> There is only one little spot on the back of this that might indicate it was mounted to something, but I know it had to be fastened to something. Thanks again.
 
I remember seeing them attached to car visors and bumpers, and I know that I had one as a kid that attached to my bike. Cool Find!
