The bird sure did look like those handles.
Anyway, here are a couple more. I didn't have a clue about this one at first but am guessing it's an early lead pencil. (250 year old site) What makes this one interesting over any that I have seen (if it is) is that when it's held the more support is given by curling your index finger pulling on the top piece while you write. It actually feels quite normal and maybe this is the way out writing untensils were supposed to be. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> Any other thoughts?
 
Found in an old area but was one of the only items mixed with alot of modern trash. Obviously a fleur de lis and some French actually did settle on the river where it was found. An ID is important because I really don't want to go back there but if it's that old I may just have to.
