Made it to ILL safe and sound but the rain appears to be following me. I got my laptop back this past weekend and had trouble getting the AOL on it. I went to Wal-Mart today and got another one of those free discs and gave it a try and got it loaded. So here I is again. Sure missed you all. Hooked up with Treasurefiend and took him to the detector shop a couple of Saturdays ago and he met some of the guys up there. Hope we will be able to hunt together soon. I got out last week and found about 16.40 in clad one Avon bracelet, probably gold plated, and a 10K Italian gold bracelet with 3 Bears about 1 1/2 inches apart linked in the chain. Waiting for some dry weather so I can get into the Forest Preserves before they are over run by Mesquitos. Did get to go for a short ride on the Harley last Saturday and that sure felt good.
Today while detecting a playground I was approached by a Park Service employee and we talked for a while. He said he had been trying to find a sprinkler valve at another location. He drove me to the place and I found it for him. He was a happy guy and wanted to give me some passes for the golf course but I don't play. He was trying to figure out how to give me something and I told him he didn't owe me anything as I was very glad to help out. We both ended up happy. Great day with no rain and I got about 4.00 in clad including a 1972 Kennedy Half. Hope all are well and able to get out.

Glad all's well with you. Your good deed no doubt will help other detectorists over the years as he thinks well of them. Good going on the digs - steve in so az

I was just thinking of you today! I will be in Chicago tomorrow!

Helping those parks people is a help to ourselves. Once talked with one of the parks people myself and he too had mentioned he occassionally had to go rent a metal detector to find sprinkler heads. I gave him a card with my phone number on it and said call me if you lose one and I will come find it for free.

In return he pointed out a picnic area in the park that was not used since the 60's. Kinda overgrown with saplings but the grills were still standing all these years. He also pointed out a place that I found an old French coin. Used to be where a bench seat was that had been moved and only he seems to know where it had been.

He told me once he was cutting grass on a riding mover and he saw something shiny in the grass just as he mowed over it...it had a grass bagger. He took that bag of grass home and found a beautiful ring someone had lost.

Getting friendly with the staff is great when they are willing to be nice...sometimes they are just ate up with their supposed authority.

Glad you got to ride. I still have to fix my carbs so I can get mine on the road. With the price of gas I can't afford not to put it on the road.

HH and hope you and TreasureFiend get some detecting in.

Glad your back in town!!!! We do have to go out and hit the woods. The MD shop we went to was awesome, I got so much tips and heard so many great stories that I went back the next week while you were gone.
