probably not more than 4 - 5 blocks at most. Accidently ran across it listed on a map.
I found the school operated at least from 1955 to 1968.
(Classmates.com had a listing of several people who attended or maybe even taught there). Last place I thought to look or ask was my next door neighbor. He went to that school and half the neighborhood either went there or to another nearby school (which is still in operation)
seems this school - an elementary - was shut down around 1968 and demolished. I have been to the area where the school once stood. I doubt if they removed the rubble from the destruction as the surrounding area is much lower than where the building used to be. And, oh yeah, it is a parking lot area now. So probably a pick axe or an air hammer might be needed to find any lost coins in that area.
Not sure yet who owns the property. Maybe I can locate the owner to find out more info and get permission to check the outer area of the parking lot. Have to check too on legalities. Wondering if the grass strip between the curb and sidewalk is owned by the city or by each homeowner along the sidewalk. If owned by the city I might stand a chance of finding some coins or other items where kids might have lost them on their way to school as they walked along the sidewalks.
Again this is one of those things one would think might be of some historic value but has been allowed to be demolished. Still think our State Archeologist needs his head looked at.
