Story from tonite's club meeting....:puke:

Been horribly hot here, 105 yesterday and 103 day before... so I didn't expect many people to make it to the monthly club meeting. Quite a few showed up however, including one gentleman who related a short story:

He was at the local coin shop when the lady running the place told him of a couple young men who came in one day with a pair of $5.00 gold coins to sell. She saw that they had dirt on them as if they came from the ground, but bought them anyway. A couple days later they show up again, this time with 2 more $5.00 gold coins.

After purchasing them, one of the young men asked if she knew where they could buy a metal detector. After giving them a couple phone numbers of local dealers, off they went.

About a week later, the 2 young men showed up again.... this time with 79 gold coins $5.00 and $10.00 pieces!!! :yikes: She got them to
tell her the story of how they found them:

They were walking along a small creek in the county nearby, when one of them spots something shiny in the bank. They discovered it was a gold coin! After some more eyeballing the creek bank, they spotted another one! Those were the first 2 they brought in. They returned the next day to scan the creek bed and bank a little harder and were rewarded with the 2 gold coins that they brought in the second time.

After getting a metal detector, they returned a third time to hunt in earnest for more and dug up the other 79 gold coins!!! Their treasure trove location, of course, was never disclosed during the conversation...:ranting: I do know that in that county many old grist mills existed on the several creeks that ran through it back in the 1800's, I even researched and found the possible locales of several of them years ago, but never got the chance to go and search them... Now I'm wondering if those gold coins didn't come from one of those mill sites that I never hunted? :rage: Oh well, too hot to go out and start hunting them now

Ah, to be single again with all the time in the world to chase after leads like this one....:sadwalk:

Take care and HH, Mike.

now if that doesn't motivate you to hunt in the heat, nothing will! Me. I'd hunt!!!:hot: Gold fever does that to you.
Mick Evans.

How about a survey. Post how many years detecting and number of gold coins found in those years. And, of course the story behind the elusive gold coin find. I will start: 8 years detecting 0 gold. If nothing else it will make for some interesting reading.

25 years: 0 gold coins, 1 10K ring, 1 10K baby bracelet.
