Straight Shaft for Excalibur

Hi Everyone,

I have been enjoying an Excal II for a little over 1.5 years. Not long after I started I switched to an over/under straight shaft which was much better balanced than the factory S atrocity. The neat thing about the over/under is that it allows easy access to the controls. However with the control pod and battery sitting at the forearm area it still gets kind of heavy after a while. I am going to get the standard straight shaft with the behind the elbow mount. I want something I can break down for travel so thought I would go with either the 2 or the 3 piece straight shaft by Plugger. I noticed the 3 piece can also be used with a hip mount configuration (by leaving off the behind the elbow piece). My only concern is that the 3 piece configuration (which is actually 4 pieces when including the factory lower rod) might feel a little wobbly due to all the connections. If so I might be better off going with the 2 piece configuration, which still breaks down enough for travel. Anyone with experience with either of these travel straight shafts by Plugger care to weigh in?

Thanks and HH!

Tony

Tony,

I purchase custom length shafts from him. No wobble in any of his shafts including his travel options. He takes obvious pride in his work and builds top quality shafts. I highly recommend Plugger's shafts.

I also have 2 and after well over a year no wobble at all on either, even using big coils on the sovereign shaft i have. highly recomended.

Thanks for the feedback! Any preference on the two piece travel rod vs. the three piece travel rod from Plugger?

Ya can't beat a Plugger shaft IMO:thumbup:

I am definitely getting a Plugger straight shaft. At this point I am simply not sure if I should get the two or three piece travel rod. Any suggestions either way from current owners?

Get the three piece travel rod. I was able to break down my Excalibur II to fit inside my carry on luggage and it was really nice.

Plugger's rods are the best, especially with the new rod clamps he is now using. No more stripped clamps and they make the rod really solid.

I own 4 of his rods and I highly recommend them. I've tried others but his are the best IMHO.

Like finderskeepers says, Pluggers new rod clamp system really works great, I used one om my Garrett which are know for there wobble problems over the years, and the wobble is now gone.

I also owned a couple of his shafts for the GT and no wobble

Good point! Sounds like the three piece rod trumps the two piece rod for easy carry on luggage.

i know were talking about shafts here, but plugger does make a chest mount assy thats great imho,i have both his shafts and hip assy along with his chest assy, i prefer the chest assy..
