strange signals

I realized today that dept and size make a difference. Large pieces of aluminum read in the hi 60_low70s(flat buried cans) and the dept of the object also changes the reading some. Anyone else get the same response from their md? I'm using a f5. Been diggin a lot of trash in the 40-50s so I was suprised to get a can instead of a copper penny! I'm just confused because I had a good system going until this mornings hunt.

I guess it depends on what tones you are hunting with. I usually hunt in d1 or d2 and the depth and size of your target will give you an indication of size and depth with the varying of the tone. When I relic hunt and hit a signal I usually lift the coil and if you keep hitting it hard when the coil is 6 plus inches it is a big target and might not be what you are looking for. You can also lower your threshold setting into the negative range and this will let you know the size of the target. Another thing you can do is pump the coil up and down over the target and if the dirt bars go up it is most likely an iron target which will help you determine dig or no dig.

Hope this helps

Bob
