Stuck Compadre coil cover Help!!!

SkiWhiz

Active member
I am a fanatic about keeping my detectors clean, I recently bought a Compadre with a 7" coil and coil cover. It is mint condition and I wanted to take the coil cover off to have a look see at the bottom of the coil and for the life of me I can't get it to come off. I know that the 9x8 spoked coil covers can be hard to get off but this one takes the cake. I wouldn't be surprised if it has never been off. I put the coil in the sink soaking in water for a few hours and it still won't budge. Any idea's??? Thanks! Steve.

Someone may have put silicone on the scuff.

They might of Robert but when put a flat butter knife alongthe edge I can feel the dirt/grit so I am thinking it might just be setup from the dirt. I got it from a fella in Florida, I am unaware of what the dirt/sand down there can do to a coil cover, might be like glue.lol.

I read where someone used a wooden dowel and hammer to gently tap a stubborn coil cover off.

Thanks everyone, I will get it OFF!!! I will probably use alittle less extreme first.....

Skiwhiz,

I can tell you there is nothing special about Florida dirt. It won't stick the coil to the cover.

I beg the difference Smudge, from the pictures of the ladies that I have seen on the beach the dirt must be pretty special :).

Ah, well now, I was talking about Florida dirt. Florida beach sand is a completely different story....

Steve this wooden dowel and small hammer and tap, tap it will move it. Been there done that, and no damage.

Thin the end of a tongue depressor, and insert between the coil and cover. If that don't start you, take a pan of hot water, and touch the cover to the hot water for a minute or two to heat and expand the diameter of the cover, use the tongue depressors again...You could dip in water again and use an air hose.....Send to me, will take back to Florida, and ask one of the gals to get it off...Will not charge you for the trip, going anyway.

I got it off, I found a stiff plastic flat scraper thing a ma bob and cut the end of it to about an inch or so and put it between the cover and the coil and tapped it in several places around the coil and it came right off. To my surprise the coil and inside the cover was very clean. Thanks a bunch for the replys.

Just send a couple of the gals up here, have to make it a time when my wife is gone, she might not go along with the idea

A hammer and a block of wood will get it off easy. Tap, tap all around, coil eases off little by little.

Believe it or not it went on quite hard, it sure isn't going to fall off. If it would of been dirtier inside it would of made the effort of getting the cover off more worth while but it was almost dirt free.

You just had to know didn't you.
