I was out hunting today lookng for a lost diamond ring but didn't find it. Later this afternoon I was messing with the gold ring I found last Friday and happened to look at the meter it said 166. So I started thinking that something wasn't right. I thought it had registered at 171-173 when I found it so I took it out in the yard and buried it. Got the same 166. I put a quater down and it read 175 then I knew why I was having weird numbers this morning--the meter control knob got moved somehow and dummy me did not even know it. The quarters and penneys I found today were reading low and I thought maybe it was because they were on edge or near some other metal and I never gave it another thought. Next time I'll be more careful.

wrap a small elastic band around the adjusting knob it helps to keep your meter calibrated cause the rubber will cause friction on the plastic housing and will hold itself in place.Ive seen myself go for many weeks with having to adjust that knob.HH <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:">

I also always when I turn on my Sovereign I will run a new dime or quarter accoss the coil to make sure it is calibrated each time I take the detector out to use. It is surprising how the control can be bumped when hauling the Sovereign.

Thanks for the helpful tip. I must have bumped it sometime in the middle of searching.
