Success equals?

Success = Attitude + Fundamentals + Equipment + Endurance + Resources + Time

Whatcha think? Not being a Poindexter or anything, this would apply to any "pursuit" type of sport, would it not? The higher the integers in all categories, the higher the success ratio. Take one out, or have a lower rating in it, and its all down to Luck at that point. What can a fellow do to increase Success in these subject categories?
(Its snowing AGAIN today, and I have nothing else to do!)

Perhaps this fits into resources but the area you are hunting is #1 as just like hunting if their isn't a 10 point buck on the mountain you are hunting you are not going to shoot one kind of scenario..Those that research and hunt areas with the goodies in the ground excell...

That would be in Fundamentals.which are research, target aquisition, experience
..Resources would be money, supportive spouse

In Europe research counts for very little nowdays. For more than forty years people have searched all the records they can get hold of, asked for permission to search round castles and Roman villas, detected village greens, gone back to the site of any early hoard find but today there always seems to have been one (or dozens) who have been there first.
If anything good was found in the past those people would use the best machines they could get hold of, detect in all metal or use a pulse detector and if more was found get the farmer to bring in a digger and take a few feet of soil off.

Now its often better to search somewhere with no history just because its untouched.

Time remains extremely important. A beach strips or a farmer leaves a day or two between harvesting a crop and getting the next in and your at work the window is missed. Great for the full time detectorist or retired, not so good for the rest.

Next I would place equipment and the ability to use it. Then can you handle that heavy depth monster or would you be better with something less deep but light enough that you can detect all day whilst your mate is flopped on the ground. Also make your own tests as to what works best on your sites. Suit the detector to your needs health and hearing wise. Select the correct headphones to suit detector and your hearing especially if you have hearing loss due to work or old age. I've five headphone sets to suit my most used detectors. Some tone machines can be murder if the correct headphones are not used.

I use a motorhome and try to park on a farm so no travelling time and minimal fuel use (Fuel is now over

Do you think 10% of the hunters acheive 90% of the finds? I saw that on a different forum, and it has provoked thoughtful introspection. It does seem to have some validity in other pursuit type sports, (which metal detecting is) Seems just when a fellow gets really good, the body craps out on him...and younger people may have started early, but lack the time or resources to get serious...I hope to have at least 2 years, but may oh my there is a lot of ground to cover!

Even with all your success components and ones added luck is still going to be a major factor.HH Ron

But area hunted is #1....even with the best detector(is there one), plenty of experience in hobby and unit you are using no goodies in the ground, no goodies in the pouch.

Those who research and knock on doors and gain permission excel....Every good place I ever hunted even though I found some goodies I felt someone had been there before me..

One guesses some areas just look good and like the idea of hunting areas with no history as chances are you may be the first to swing a coil in this area and one never knows as the baseball
field of the 1901 bears may now be a orchard etc. etc...
