Sudden awakening

Coinseeker 78

New member
I have owned several detectors and found many old artifacts, coins, rings and other valuables with all of them. I have a friend that I detect with who out finds me on most occasions. He uses a Minelab and I use a Fisher and AT Pro. Sometime I beat him in finds but neither of us find a huge amount more then the other. I finally realized that it was not my detectors fault because he has never found deep targets that I have not also marked with my detector. I found out that he is able to dig twice as many target's as me on a given day. He can dig, retrieve and replace the plug in the time it takes me to dig the plug. I am almost 80 years old and have severe arthritis in my neck and hands that slow me down. But I am happy for him and myself because it is a good friendship and we have fun hunting together. I might buy another detector when one comes out with an amazing break through that will increase your odds of locating treasures over today's detectors. Thanks for reading this and good luck with your detecting.

Hope I am walking with a detector and digging at 80. That in itself is a huge feat. Great story about your friend but you are right, each unit's potential is in the user.

Keep on detecting sir!

Fisher and Minelab are both great detectors but the Minelab is heavier. The fisher may be the better choice for you on this fact alone. I've noticed after swinging a heavier detector for several hours,I become fatigued and my detecting habits become sloppy. This can result in missing good targets.

I'm nicely over the 70 mark myself and the older I get it seems, the more I want to hunt. Usually early mornings for about 4 hours almost daily. I do find myself wondering how much longer I'll be able to traipse through the woods, or make 3-4 dozen knee bends on an outing. It is not as easy as it was even just a few years ago. I commend you for getting out there Coinseeker, and hope I am still able to do so at your age. It is still the thrill of the hunt. Not how fast one can dig them. And no doubt, the weight of my Fisher and Tek machines have been a real asset from a fatigue standpoint. Good post... it sure does gets one to thinking. Good luck! HH jim tn

You are an "ICON" for the rest of us who one day, GOD WILLING will be 80 and still detecting !!

Thank you for the inspiration.... May you enjoy the hobby well into your nineties ( 90)... :clapping:

Exactly what the rest said! Coinseeker, you have really helped me with my weapons of choice. I hope you can keep that coil swinging for many more years!

Hey Coinseeker 78, GOD BLESS You still DIRT Detecting at 80 yrs. old!! That's FANTASTIC!! Seriously, research the OLD SWINGY-THINGY Harness, SELL for approx. $35, or that NEW Version
that sells for APPROX. $50. I have the older model harness and it really lightens the load on any HEAVY DETECTORS!! BEST of LUCK, KEEP SWINGIN, Les Robinson
