Sun Ray X-5 coil with Explorer XS

Yes you can use it on the XS. It would take me all day to tell you about all the success I have had with it. Should be in any XS owners tool bag.

I agree TOTALLY with both answers, the short amount of time I've used my 5" Excelerator coil on my EX2 it has blown me away with depth(7" wheats),accuracy in ID and pinpointing is ridiculously sharp. The Excelerator and Sunray are from different companies but expect similar results,if you have trash to sort through and time to do it,there is NO other coil to have. Separation with that size of a coil is like nothing I've seen before or since. Results speak for themselves, and you WILL see results!

The great thing is it gives you the same sound as the coil gives be it iron or silver or what ever. The worst thing is not great depth and only picks up about 1 1/2 to2" from the tip. I also think it hampers the performance of the detector a bit. I took mine off (will sell soon on E-Bay) and use the Garrett Pro Pointer AT (water proof for $127) Awesom handheld..the best!

I'M SORRY...MY BRAIN IS NOT WORKING..I THOUGHT THIS POST WAS ABOUT THE SUN RAY PINPOINTER..ATTACHED TO THE EXLORER. I ALSO HAVE A 5" SUN RAY COIL BUT HAVE NOT USED IT ENOUGH TO GIVE AN OPINION. I USE MY JOEY FOR TRASH... THINK NOW I WILL PULL IT OUT AND COMPARE TO THE JOEY!

Hello,

The sun ray X-5 and X-8 are excellent coils for trashy places, with the 5” being better with holes containing multiple targets (goodies and junk). I have used both to separate very close targets in parks, sports fields, old homes and colonial sites. Also, I have not found a noticeable loss in depth and target signal compared to the stock coil. Recently, I dug three wheat cents (separate plugs) in the teens at a measured depth of 9 1/2”, with the 5” coil; could not believe it! This hunt used the Explorer 2 with the following settings: normal, 28 manual, 10 gain, 10 variable, deep=fast=off and 10 limits. Of course, these results are for my soil matrix, hunting style (Low and Slow) and area.

Regards,

Relic hunter- I have gotten RIDICULOUS depth with my 5" coil as well,I think the TX signal is so concentrated that it's got nowhere to go but down, and it goes DOWN! If you would've tried to sell me that coil with the promise it would hit 8" targets I would've called BS. But,I got it with the EX2 I have,so nobody had to sell me anything. The guy I got the machine from said it was a GREAT coil, that's all he said. That is the understatement of the year. There is no "more under-estimated" coil on the surface of the earth than these 5" coils. If you have all day to play in the trash,it is what you want, and in some cases,is the only coil size that can do the job.
