Sunray DTl ll question.

In the past while using the Winburn Avenger or Nighthawk in Bright sun light the meter fades until its unreadable or a blank screen. To correct this problem I limit my time in a open field on a bright sunny day.The meter always recovers after a few minutes in the shade.Does the Sunray Meters have this same problem. Thanks Ron

I feel your pain Ron, I have winburn that does the same thing. Its annoying.
Sometimes I walk in a direction where my shadow covers the meter to keep the sun off it.
Sometimes I switch to a ML 550 meter, but I don't like the 550 as well
Sometimes I switch to the explorer ll and flag the targets that might be interesting and go
back later with the Sov. and confirm if I should dig them or not. I'd use the exp. only, but
I spend to much time digging up trash. As hyped up as the exp. is, I keep sending it
back to ML telling them it does'nt work right. But they keep sending it back saying it
works fine.

how would the sovereign be any better telling what the target is. both machines give a numerical and tone reading. i'm just learning the explorer but i can already tell that i can pass up some trash that's close in number to a coin than i could on the soverthanks.

MonDak,I just got the Sunray and haven't had a chance to use it.I 'll agree with you its very frustrating to be restricted to shaded areas because the meter keeps going out. Both Winburn meters I had suffered this problem.I think the Explorer is a great detector, but like you I have more confidence with the Sovereign ability to Identify targets.

Neil,I appreciate the information about the Sunray meter not being knocked out by bright sun light. Thanks Ron

Ron,

I never had a problem with the Sun Ray meters going black like the Winburn meters, but I have had them go a little darker then normal.
I use a E-Trac too plus my Sovereign and if detecting a area like a persons yard I only want to dig the coins and not the trash I use the Sovereign with the Sun Ray DTI meter as I get the best ID on coins verses trash items and dig way less plug and have more coins to show for my time. The only thing is the Explorer or the E-Trac can tell the difference in a copper penny and a quarter while the Sovereign just says it is a copper coin or better

Rick, again thanks for the information.I agree the Sovereign has the ability to identify targets with the 180 meter better than any detector I have ever used. The Explorer is a great detector,my biggest problem is cherry picking silver with this unit.I'm stuck at my wife's garage sale this weekend need to get out in the field. Thanks Ron
