My ATP found two Mercurys today. One is like many others dated 1943 however the other one is a 1916 in VF40 condition. I knew it was a key date but didn't think anymore about it. Took it home threw it in my 2013 silver bottle. Later this evening I pulled out the coin catalog out of curiosity and saw the value of the 1916 D. I ran downstairs found my 1916 and with sweaty palms and forehead placed it under my big scope in great anticipation of seeing the big D. I looked and looked but no D. So close but so far. Maybe tomorrow.

Wow. I did the same thing last weekend. Pulled a Mercury out from the plug, but the coin had a lot of tarnish and I couldn't read the date. When I got home, I put it under running water and clearly saw 1916. Alas, a quick flip of the coin but no D. I now have found a 1916 and 1916-S this year. It's a never ending hunt!
