Suprise Find and odd TID's

I was searchung yesterday and was getting some new clad when I got a reading (from what I remember) of either 46 or 48 and then a negetive number, can't remember either -4 or-6. I dug about 6 to 8 inches down and wasn't finding the object then saw a what looked like a piece of rusted out can lid. Just then I noticed what looked like writing, I wet it down and saw something on it. When I got home I washed it up and found It stated "Annual State Militia Encampment". No date or state location. The area was know to have military camps in the past.

I am assuming thos was from a reunion of Civil War vets. I had read of such encampments here in 1885 and in the early 1890's. I found a similiar one online with a date of 1897.
Thanks (and help appreciated)
Lee

Very cool. Why can't I find things like that. I'll bet your detecting buddies are jealous. Congrats.

Congrats on the nice find Lee. My assumption would be the same as yours, from Civil War Veteran's reunion. I did find a link with a picture of what looks very similar to yours. Tough to tell in their pic as it was difficult to zoom in to read theirs. But the shape, figure and lettering does appear to be the same. Take a look at the badge in the lower left corner. HH Randy

Thanks Kscoyote. I am the one that should be jealous, i haveseen some of yor finds. I am just trying to catch up with you.:chase:

Thanks Digger, that does look like it. I wish I could read it. Any idea as to the jumping TID's?

TID's are a program written based on coin sized and shaped objects, The irregular shape alone could account for the jumpy numbers.
It could also be that the rings that attached it to the top piece were steel which rotted away, and there could have been residual iron(rust) still present.

Great find by the way!

The thing that got me was the consistant jumping from about 48 to a negative. I almost passed but it was one of those targets that yelled "Dig me"

nice find. what i have found when the numbers go from 48 to a negative the 48 is at the end of the loop towards ferrous metal again so it jumps to the negative ferrous #s. i usually dont dig 48 or -8,6,4. but may dig -2 sometimes depending on the area im in. im usually looking for gold nuggets so its differant than what you are doing.
