Got home from work today and there sitting on the kitchen floor next to the dryer was a box with my name on it. I opened it and there sat my new DX-1 probe along with two lower rods and a new 6X9"DD Eclipse...... For a moment there, I was a kid opening Christmas presents!!! It took all of 5 minutes to get things together and out in the front yard I went. I spent a few minutes getting acquainted with my new equipment and off I went out into the foil infested yard in the relic mode with the gain wide open after pumping the coil to balance. I couldn't beleive how stable and quiet the threshold was, signals from the foil were plentiful and since I have spent many hours in this yard with my various detectors, I soon got tired of the foil and went inside. But I did get a chance to test out the probe and it works great, I would get a hit on the foil in the yard and do the x thing to get a pinpoint, then I would switch to the probe, and I could find the target with the probe without digging, of course the target was only about an inch or two in the ground but still I could find it so quickly. I will take this new equipment out to my hunting grounds tomorrow for a real test but I can already tell that these are keepers. I do notice however that the weight has increased so I may need to deal with that issue by rigging the bungie cord or some such thing. Anyway, I'm a happy camper! Well, I went out to the park on saturday with the new goodies and the first thing I noticed was that the 6X9 DD coil wasn't that hard to pinpoint. The new sunray was a great help in finding targets that were less than about three inches deep by being able to sweep the ground with it to find exact center of target, then it was just a matter of probing with my coin probe and popping out the target. On deeper targets, the probe was wonderful since I could just cut a plug out and probe the hole to get an idea of whether to dig deeper or to one side to recover the target. I was amazed by the 6X9 coils ability to run so quietly in the park with a ground reading of 68/72, also I recovered a tiny bit of copper at about four inches, so it seems that this new coil will be very sensitive to smaller gold also. I am going to bury one of my small gold nuggets to get an idea about that. I ended the day with about two dollars in clad and was satisfied that the new "toys" are a move in the right direction.....HH, Scott/atlanta <img src="/metal/html/super.gif" border=0 width=26 height=28 alt=":super">
