sweep speed

I've been used to using a relatively slow sweep speed, but the other day I did some air testing on my Excel and noticed significantly increased depth when I used a rather FAST sweep speed. Have any of you noticed improved depth with a faster speed, or what would you consider an "optimal" sweep speed? I guess I'm used to the thought that slower is better. Am I wrong?
Thanks
