First of all not trying to stir up a hornets nest but this is a PI Learning Classroom and this is a subject on the subject. When you are alone to try to figure out things you do not always come up with the corrct answer..It helps to have a leader who is correct to follow and learn from...but since that is not possible in this hobby that often....self learned things are not always correct. Add to this that I am discussing beach hunting.
Sweep Speed?
I see where Bill always says "Sweep speed should be slow." WHAT IS SLOW/WHAT IS FAST? Words, words, words,.... I do not believe that I can swing a coil faster than the coil can transmit a signal and get a reply...speed of sound??? Yet when using the Goldquest II I find that no matter how I fast I sweep the coil over a target i get a threshold rise. i am not talking super-sonic speed but a rather fast clip as I am moving. I get this slight threshold rise that tells me to look again and I do re-sweep and upon doing that find and remove the target. Now if I have been going slower in speed of sweep I might have had more of a threshold rise but the end result would be the same, target in hand.
The radiated coil pattern is extremelly fast in terms of updating itself...can I actually within reason swing the coil to too fast?
Since you cannot see me swing the coil, let me say that my normal speed is to the right starting at one thousand and it returns at two thousand and back to the right again at three thousand. Eash sweep is to the point where the coil is starting to come off it low path and then the reverse direction is made.
