T-2 SE (DST) , FA prob. or is it me??

I received my new T-2 last week and playing around with it the FA mode would not pick up a '41 dime buried at 5". I threw down a clad dime and it would not sound off much more than 3" on top of the ground. I ground balanced the machine with sens. on 75 and disc. at 10. All the other modes seemed to work O.K. Am I doing something wrong? Your help is appreciated.

I'm new to the T2 as well. But from what I've read, the fa mode provides a faster response, but sacrificing depth in the process. So yes, I think your observations are typical.

If it can't pick up a dime at 5'' ---well, seems like a worthless mode. That' a big sacrifice. Thanks for the "come back".

Same results from the FA mode on mine. I sent it back to the factory, had it checked out and there was nothing wrong with it. Seems to be the norm for the FA mode...
I haven't used the FA mode at all but I can tell you that the 5" coil is a killer in heavy iron, good depth and very fast recovery in 2+. You will be very happy with the machine after you spend some time with it.

It is shallower, but not that much. At least not on my F75. I've dug Indian head pennies at 5-6 inches with the 5 inch coil and a clad dime at least 7 inches with the 11 inch coil. The tones are very brisk but repeatable. I run my sensitivity around 90. I don't know about air tests or buried coins though.

Hey guys I appreciate the responses. I have not used the 5" but I will as soon as the rain stops. I hope all of you find some great "things" this weekend.

Depth is not what the FA mode is for. Those of us that detect in heavy iron (where the fa mode would do best) can attest to the importance of unmasking vs. attaining depth under such circumstances. In a nail bed, anything beyond 4"- 5" is not typical, closer to 2"-3" is more common place.

However...

The T2 is a depth monster in BP, or (my favorite) 2B. I've dug targets at an honest 7"-8" with the 5" shooter coil in less dense (iron) areas, and it has air tested at 13" on a dime with the 11" coil. I haven't had it long enough to attest to actual targets that deep, yet.

any discrim will loose depth...that's why all metal is the deepest....but put your machine in bp and switch to all metal,,,run it as hot as you can and hunt slow...you will be tired of digging deep holes in no time...Ive had mine since 2012 and its the only thing I hunt with....well I do have an f70 for backup....
