T2+ 5" DD coil find

First day out with my new 5" coil. First hole dug. A real nice Georgia cuff button. Real excitement! Reverse says Columbus and McLilley . Wow! A button made in Columbus, Georgia? Cleaned it up and look more closely. Oops--made in Columbus, Ohio by M.C. Lilley and co. probably in the 1870's. Oh well, at least the first find was a button.

Cool first find! Congratulations!

Sounds like a terrific find, have been using the 5'' coil as my everyday coil on trashy sites for a few weeks using AM mode, what a deadly combination, will probably use this combination ongoing,it worked well in discrimination mode but AM is the way too go for me in the future.

Mega, I must try AM with the 5". Sounds like a winner. Also just pulled up a V.M.I button in excellent condition with the 5".

Yes, this is a detecting nightmare when it comes to iron. The button was only about 4". The soil here in east central Ga. is fairly neutral compared to parts of the state that is pure clay. I don't see how a North Ga. hunter can dig through that stuff, esp. in a summer without much rain.

I live in North Georgia and digging in the summer ain't no fun. Between the clay and mineralization you then have to contend with the heat and the state bird the (Mosquito) along with ticks and copperhead snakes and rattle snakes. Needless to say with all of that I don't hunt much in the summer. I catch up on my honey do list mostly during the summer months.
