T2 and Bottlle Caps ID

Ronk

Active member
I just saw an interesting video on how to tell if it's a quarter or bottle cap using the T2. As the coil was raised higher the signal on the steel bottle cap started getting lower tone and very jumpy Id on the meter. On the quarter...as the coil was being raised higher...the signal was the same and the Id stayed locked on 89.
The targets were not buried. They were on the ground.
I wonder if it works the same with the bottle cap and quarter in the ground! Also...if anyone has already tried this...Would it work with the Omega? Of course the T2 had a DD coil. I've seen several ways for id'ing bottle caps with DD's on but I'm not sure if it would work every time or in the ground also.

I run an F70 with the 11"dd and have no trouble distinguishing bottle caps about the same way, I run a low sens, like 50ish...with one exception, a flattened crown cap really can almost sound like a Q, I have found stacks of coins that sound a lot like a bottlecap, especially a penny on top of a Q. I think the low sens is important for this, I hunt a really bottlecappy park and pick right through there unimpeded by those crown caps. Near the parking areas theres a good chance to find the flattened caps that got run over, still a guy can sort of tell..I think its a matter of lots of practice.

Ronk, that procedure works very well with the Omega, too. As Mud kind of alluded to, those old smashed rusty caps can be a bit tougher. Usually you will get a pretty good spike on the feo meter, though. But darn, it is tough to pass some of them up, particulary

the pinpoint mode is also a way to get those babies out of your life. Bottle caps will pinpoint a bit larger. I also slow my sweep down and a bit less far traveled. That will help them break up too. There is something to give up with those DD coils and bottle caps are one.
