T2 FREQUENCY QUESTION

johnnybegood

New member
My favorite sites are colonial sites out in the woods with little trash.I run it wide open with 0 disc but i was wondering if i can get deeper by using a different frequency other than the factory f4 setting.Maybe f7?
thanks
John

I've read somewhere F7 provides more depth but I really doubt it since having different freqs is intended to avoid interferences so my guess is that the one that provides better depth is that which is less affected with interferences in your particular field.

Higher frequency is optimal for Relic sites, Lower Frequency is a known for being a little better on Silver and coins.

Agree, but we are talking here of less than 2khz from f1 to f7 if my memory serves me right. In anycase EL you just made me want to try it in my test garden :)
Thanks

I do get the most chatter at f4.So maybe that is the most sensitive...

I'm going to see if it might alter some EMI issues at a few locations with my Omega 8000 in the Disc. mode as I usually only opt for it in All Metal mode.

Honestly, you'll most likely "get deeper" if you're hunting in the All Metal mode with a proper Threshold (Hum level). In the Discriminate mode you didn't mention what Audio Tone ID selection you use and that can make a difference for me. I notice more difference when using my Omega in the d2 (similar to 2+ on the T[sup]2[/sup]) Audio where it seems to provide me a little better depth and signal clarity on deeper targets than I get in the d4 (like 4+) Tone ID function. On my recent T[sup]2[/sup] venture late yesterday I did a little comparison with both the Tone ID selection as well as altering the Frequency.

With MY T[sup]2[/sup] I got about the same performance with all 7 frequency settings ... most of the time ... and when I was in a noisy environment I could quiet it down a little by off-shifting the frequency a little to help deal, with EMI. I did note, when responding to a '57 silver Roosevelt dime, that I could get slightly better 'depth' when I was on the F1 frequency. By that I mean than I was able to just slightly raise my coil, just a little, and get a similar response as when I was at F4, and on that dime at that spot at that time with MY T[sup]2[/sup] I was marginally weaker, just slightly, at F7.

I am not sure what YOUR T[sup]2[/sup] would do differently, or your EMI issues, or the target or ground environment you might be dealing with. Also, while this was just a tinker-around-test at the time and while I could note a slight difference, it wouldn't be anything I would put faith in during a general search because it was quite minute at the farthest reach of the coil-to-target response and I was intently listening for any difference.

Oh, one thing I will state it that when I noted the difference, and my Discriminate level was set at '0 like you used, I increased the Discrimination to 20-22 and noted a very slight loss of response on that tiny bit of gain I felt I heard, but when I continued to sweep the target and increased the rejection to 50-51, the audio response was back and, if possible, even slightly better. Note the word slightly, meaning I might or might not benefit during a general search with this adjustment because this was a specific target I was checking that turned out to be a late fifty's silver dime..

That could be possible, at least at that time and location. I have experienced "chatter" with both my T[sup]2[/sup] and Omega that seemed to calm down when I shifted the frequency, but I've also been places when it didn't, or it was just different, and although I calmed down the chattery noise I felt I lost just a touch in performance. Caused by the EMI or the shifted frequency, i have no clue.

For each of us with any model that features such adjustments, it's best to experiment with our own unit in our hunting environments and see what might help us out. Personally, I am NOT going to make any deliberate effort to shift from the F4 default on mine because it works well and there wasn't any real benefit from the shift, except to calm a little EMI noise.

For me, there is more benefit by using the best Audio Tone setting for the site, using the highest Sensitivity setting I can and still be stable, hooking up the best headphones I can for my hearing needs (on the mend right now), and simply being veer attentive to all audio response I get. Site selection and anticipated targets are what will make things different between all of our chosen hunting styles.

I now always use the 2+ tone.I never use anything else anymore. It seems to give me the best tones of what is in the ground.
I guess i understand the sounds the 2+ produces. When i switch to the 3 or dp modes i get really confused and impatient.
I really just need some more time to learn my machine.....Thanks all,
John
