T2 Hunts with Fisher CZ3 and Fisher WINS

Low-Boy/LCPM

So I went to a site that is part of the Gold Rush days. I have hunted there alone a few times and have come home with some nice relics. But no coins or small relics.

So I ran my sens at about 40 and fast grabbed and used 2 plus tones and disc at 10. I got a lot of overloads big iron and they turned out to be some nice relics.

But as you know the T2 sees everything and gives you tones to let you know what is going on. But my friend used a 5 inch coil and would lock in on his targets and bam out popped coins with solid repeatable beeps.

And I would go over the same target before he dug it and I would see the the coin at about 70 but would see everything else from tiny nails to iron, he would be able to lock in on the coin!

This place is filled with a lot of relics but also tons of iron and nails and rust and just about everything else. So when I used his detector I could pick out a lot of targets and really separate them.

We did go over some of the readings I got and he got blanked out by the iron so he would have missed a lot of big iron targets also.

My one thought is the T2 and a smaller coil, you could separate the targets in a trashy area. Not pick it all up but hone in on the targets better. I know I have read from a lot of you that the only thing a small coil would help with is getting between tight areas.

I have had the T2 for about six months and only use it for relic hunting. But the smaller coil idea really got me thinking.

I don't know if a lot of you fellow relic hunters from the United States and the UK hit fields and empty lots where all you do is get targets and iron just about every sweep you take with your coil or targets are more separated?

Anyway any ideas?

Nice selection of finds Lawrenzo,

You guys did good, Wish I was there to see you guys again and show you the T-2 does get great separation in extremely trashy areas laced with old iron.

I do remember last year testing Rybo's Fisher against your first T-2 the one I bought from you, It didn't rare as well as the T-2 on separation and it had the smaller coil. The T-2 would have easily hit those coins underneath the iron, Give it some more time and you'll gradually get accustom to the T-2's larger coil and see the same or better separation benefits as do other detectors using smaller coils.

I've compared my T-2 against a couple of top end detectors as posted in the sentence below both using smaller coils, The T-2 had better separation over these detectors using smaller coils at an old sidewalk demo.

(1) MXT using a 4x6" DD coil,
(2) Explorer SE using the 5" SunRay coil,

You guys did well in that area and glad to see Rybo learned his fisher well to pull those coins and relics out, You just need more time with the T-2 and it too can and will pull put the same relics and coins Rybo did only you'll be using a larger coil.

Some people can grasp the T-2 quickly and some slowly, Hang in there and eventually the T-2 will be pulling out finds like Rybo's fisher did :)

Congrats Rybo and thanks for posting Lawrenzo,
HH, Paul (Ca)

the T2 is so easy to adapt as you detect i cannot understand that your using those settings through the day ,if your detecting and encounter a lot of iron turn the disc up and sens down to cope then change back as needed ,also i would have shifted up to 3 or 4 tone to see thru the iron better .the whole idea of this machine is ease of adjustment .
however looking at the finds you done well anyway

a detector may be with fast recovery an so forth, larger coils mask targets. Based on past experience at that type site I would not have lowered the sensitivity as much. Raise the coil 3-4 inches off the ground and sweep slow. Also increase the disc to just eliminate the predominate iron sounds and lower the volume to a comfortable non tiring level. All these help immensely at sites where youare being bombarded with a ton of audio information. Listen for the good beeps or anything that sounds even slightly different than the predominate tones/sounds.

using the 1 tone iron settting NASA Tom gave me. Not that I'm taking sides or want Fisher to get "beat". But......Though most would think turn down the senstivity, in that case with the T2 you were way too low. Double your senstivity to around 80. Disc only 10 is letting in too much iron. Try around 20 or so. Rely on the audio. It will sound very noisy (like all metal) and takes alot of practice but really works. Others have been testing this one tone set up and finding similar unmasking qualities....
Perhaps the main thing is to forget the coil size & don't let it intimidate. I tell myself over & over "it's a DD".....
Great selection of finds there though.....

good post Bill even put the discrim higher I often run at 25-30 on bad sites the coins will jump out at you .

amid all the pops & clicks of the "bad" sounding iron. It does take practice, but after awhile you can often conjure up even a repeatable signal amid all the junk....

First of all for anyone that buys or owns a machine, test it out! If you have any nails whether iron or current, take them and make the necessary adjustments to your machine to disc out the or "blank" out the nails and hear the target you want to acquire. This takes time and in some cases an hour or two. You have to be precise in doing this before you drive out to your site and spend time looking for coins or relics. Whether it is this machine or that machine, you need to do this and not rely so much upon others suggestions and settings as I would bet your ground is different where you are, as compared to others across the world. In my area of the country we have hot ground and if you throw in a case of iron nails and disintegrated iron nails, you have a site that is a true "pain" that others have given up on. Now take out the T2 and experiment with the disc numbers and the sounds. What you don't want is confusion out in the field and you want to hear your target. If you have a multiple target sound going off every few seconds it means that your machine is getting "fooled" by all the iron around and is sounding off to those signals. Increase your disc between 25 and 30 and you will hear fewer targets, what this means is that you now DIG those fewer repeatable targets. Granted, you may dig up a cup full of iron objects but you will also dig up a good target for every ten holes you dig. The reason why I am suggesting this to you and others is because of the soil matrix in those conditions will fool most detectors into sounding off on most signals being "iron" when in actuality if your signal is on the fringe of depth and close by iron, it will be masked to some degree if it is a deep signal and you are reading it. What you are doing with this setting is you are knocking out 60 to 70% of the bad signals and focusing on those signals which bleed through. I experimented for a few hours with all of the various settings the T2 has and for me, in the conditions that I described to you, I use the 1+ mode. It will let me zero in on the remaining 40 to 30% of the targets. "Do I mind digging iron?" No way!, I have an iron nail collection at home with the amount of iron nails that I have collected at both camps and home sites from this area. I use them for testing a machines response time and whether the machine will be adequate in the site that I intend to search. With the T2, the response time is fast and that is a good thing for both you and I. In ways it can be compared to a Tesoro machine with a meter and depth to boot! What this means for you is that you need to take an hour or so of time, and experiment with your machine to figure out what will knock out the iron and allow you to dig the objects that you want to dig. For my test object, I use a small Civil War cuff button and mix it in with two large iron nails- separated by an inch or two. Most machines will get fooled with the large iron nails and not read the target. The only machines I know of that will hit the target are....Tesoro V, Tesoro C, and yes...your new machine the T2. Adjust the discrimination and hit the target...play with the settings and you will be rewarded. My other machines that I own are....Explorer XS, Minelab Sov GT, Fisher 1266X, Garret GTA 1000, and Tesoro Bandido* Note this machine will disc out iron at a setting of 0 and give you a great signal in the iron, however there is not too much depth to the machine. The size of the iron nails I am talking about are 1.5 long and as wide as small putt-putt pencil/ a little smaller...but similar. Makes for a great way to see how your machine will really do when the conditions are poor.
