T2 # of tones affect on depth

Is depth affected by the tone level that is used on the T2? is for instance tone #1 deeper than 3B?

For me my magic setting is 2 tone, disc of 50 and sens. as high as I can. In my soil 2 tone is deeper than 3 or 3b. With a disc of 50 I still get nickels but am not bothered by the foil signals lower

I like hunting in 3 tone with my T2 Classic with disc at about 20 and sens. at 85. I've dug small brass targets the depth of my Garrett pinpointer with good repeatable signals.
Think 2 tone is supposed to be deeper, but in my good Illinois dirt it doesn't seem to be much difference..........HH

Tone choice might have some effect on depth but it also has a great affect on unmasking ability in specific sites...like extreme iron for instance.
I use 1, monotone, most of the time on my F70 for this reason because I deal with an unusual amount of that stuff.

Herb Ive switched back and forth plenty of times between all metal and disc and everytime all metal gives a more consistent signal and its deeper.

They do, Dankowski's findings are pretty well known to work using monotone especially in iron and he explains why.
I actually go all the way down to 1 or 0 on the disc because I want to see and hear everything but disc 6 on the F70/F75 and I assume the Patriot will knock out most junk including most small troubling nails and still let you hear the good target targets or make it easier to notice them.
On the cousin unit the T2 it works the same but since it is programmed differently I think the correlating settings are one tone and disc 20 or 21...but don't quote me, go find and read his compilation for this and some more eye opening things about the programming and behavior of all these units.

I responded to that linked post years ago when I had my F75. I know I ended up using all metal mostly on that too.
I will try these settings again next time out with the T2.

As a general rule single tone is deeper as is using as little discrimination as possible,using AM is going to be the deepest,but i personally like using 2+ and about 4 discrimination,sensitivity at about 85 but of course these are only guide line settings as these can all change subject to the location that i am detecting at the time.If its a clear pasture or deep ploughd and rolled site then i often open up the settings for maximum depth but on a saxon/roman site which can be very trashy then the settings are reduced.

i typically never run my machine lower than 37 on discrimination... my reasoning is that ... my smallest gold item is a very fine 10k chain with a tiny 10k gold cross. i bought this thing at a pawn shop because i didn't own any jewelry, and i doubt id ever find anything smaller out in the field.... it drops out at 37... i doubt i will ever come across a decent target that is going to read much lower than that... haven't yet.... i'd maybe drop it lower if I were relic hunting.... but for now thats my go to default setting... disc @37, sens @85. i typically run in mono, but have been playing around with delta pitch a bit. i have virtually no experience withthe other tones, and my test be is being reworked, so i have no data for comparison on depth.

When the gold item gave the 37 reading did it also give the low reading for iron?

it did give the low tone... if it werent for that, i would run a touch higher on the disc, and ignore the grunts... would maybe even run 3b to help knock out the bottle caps. that mode seems to be ok in the few test I've had a chance to run. still not sure, so I am goofing around with it constantly. next time out will be delta pitch for the full session.... not sure how thats gonna affect depth. i may purchase another larger piece of gold for testing purposes.. to see how something larger reads

the bottle caps usually read in the quarter range. if I'm getting very many I will switch to 3b to check and they usually disappear.

Herb when you have your disc set so close to the lowest target you would like to find it increases your chance of masking that target out. You might want to play around and check out small iron next to that gold piece...you will see were you can knock out small iron and still get some smaller gold, even right next to each other.

i had wondered about masking, and if that would come into play. thanks for the tip,.... goofing around with the delta pitch and trying to sort out how that setting would benifit me
if any at all.... i have a LOT to learn about the T2.... its an awesome detector...

Will be out all day today(sunday) and also monday detecting with the T2 and the NEL Storm coil as i am on a deep pasture site,will be running the normal setting at about 85sens,2+,4 discrimination,as the site is a active animal pasture site i may need to reduce senitivity down a little due to the decades of animal dropping which can cause problems with running a higher sensitivity.As the site is pretty clear trash wise i could even run the discrimination down to zero just to gain some depth and not miss any targets.Its very important as well with the T2 infact most machine when deep searching of having a decent set of full cup headphones so that you dont miss those deep whisper targets that i am after as those are the sought after ones.
