t2 pinpoint ?

since learning to trust my pinpoint it seems that if its a coin I'm dead center in the hole or plug, if its trash its usually askew of center , whats up with that? Also if i 4-way with the pinpoint on a coin it will be wide 1-way(if its wide i think its trash) and narrow the other?

i think its because the machine was calibrated on a coin it will be pinpoint dead on with a coin. the trash is different size or composition so the pinpoint may be off. i've found this with every machine brand i've used.

A very important thing when you get a good signal and get a good pinpoint, then you start to dig your target then you don't hear the signal anymore even in pinpoint. It will be in the lose dirt at the bottom of the hole 99.9 % of the time, actually 100% of the time. Happy hunting.

This suggests to me that you're getting the hang of using the T2's pinpointing ability, and that the DD coil is somewhat helpful.

However, it also suggests that you're mainly chancing upon coins that are laying relatively 'flat' to the coil.

"Trash" is often defined as irregular or odd-shaped junk and the target's shape is one reason. Also, some types of "trash' will be positioned a bit askew due to the odd shape it has. With any coil, round or elliptical, concentric or Double-D, you can have such results from irregularly shaped metal.

A nice and proper, round-shaped coin or similar object, that is laying 'flat' to the coil and ground surface, will usually produce a very uniform and consistent pinpoint from all directions, (if there's no nearby masking or interfering metal). I mean 2-way or 4 way or 6-way, whatever you try.

Depending upon your Discriminate level it's possible that you do have nearby trash. Also, it is quite possible that a coil, or similar round-shaped object, is NOT positioned nice and even with the coil and ground surface. If the coin is canted enough you can have some difficulty pinpointing and getting a good TID/VDI and other info. If you try testing yourself by laying a coin 'flat' on the ground in a metal-free area, you'll see it's quite consistent.

Then, position the coin by sticking it in the ground so that the top of the coin is angles outward to your left. Have the coin on about a 45
