I thought I would share this with everyone. I have had alot of trouble lately with the USPS when shipping my detectors. I shipped a detector a couple of months ago via USPS insured Priority Mail which normally takes 3 days or less right? Was I wrong , I did a trade with a man from the other forum and we both sent out our detectors the same day. I got his detector and he did not get mine , making me look like the bad guy. So anyway he was nice about it , I gave him the confirmation # < which by the way does not mean nothing , it isnt a tracking # , so he went to his local post office to check. We went back and forth like this for almost 4 weeks and he finally got it. I have attached a pic. of what it looked like when he got it , it was a miracle that it was not damaged. The post office did not and would not explain why , or how this could happen , but they sure will charge you for a guaranteed service ( at least thats what they use to claim ) , and not back it up. I now have another detector floating around out there with USPS snail mail I bought from Tom(Conn)<( I assume is honest). It has been almost two weeks now , with no detector. I only ship Fed Ex , or DHL from now on , if I buy one I request this service from now on. The rates are cheaper and you dont have to worry , and in most cases their ground service will get it there in 2 days in my experience. Maybe its just bad luck , but I have traded with many folks on here , and other places with no problems untill just recently and I dont care for the attitudes I get at the post office when I question their services. I hate to ramble on about it , but you guys would feel the same way if this happened to you. If anyone has any feedback about Tomm(Conn) , please let me know , I dont want to accuse the seller ( yet ), especially when the postal service has done me wrong so many times before.
Thanks everyone , David

I've always had great service with USPS, but poor service with UPS. Not sure about your post office, but I can ship a detector and it cost a good $5.00 - $10.00 less going through UPS, FEDEX or DHL. The reason for this is, you have to go through a shipper, who is a middle man and must add a percentage to the shipping fee for their profit.

I have yet to be able to beat my USPS shipping cost & reliability. But it sounds like you got a bad one.

Also, I have received detectors through UPS, Fedex & DHL and all of them have this nasty habit of leaving the detector at my door even when no one is home. This is a bad situation waiting to occur.

You can go to the related sites Fed Ex , DHL , etc. and compare rates. Fed Ex. is always cheaper than USPS (on a detector size package, than there priority service) unless it goes overseas or Canada , thats where USPS has an advantage. Also the small packages are chaper USPS than Fed Ex or UPS. But my point is on a detector size package going ground and will get there faster than USPS priority. If you are taking your package to a UPS or Fed Ex store like kinkos , than this explains why you are paying more than the USPS. When you go to these places , you are paying for that franchise name and the individual that owns the outlet is pocketing the difference ( there is your middle man). I have a local airport nearby that has DHL and Fed Ex across from each other , and I deal with them directly. The proof is on the web , research , learn , and save. The post office has an attitude like you owe them something. I dont owe them nothing , I work for a living and pay my taxes so they can have a place to work. They have me confused with someone who sits around the house waiting on a check for a disability they faked , or the one that abuses the welfare system , etc.

By the way UPS is sorry too. I could write a book on those clowns. They left a box of fishing rods in my driveway , did not even get close to the porch with it. I could have easily ran over it with my truck if I had not seen it . I think what is boils down to is this. So many people use UPS and USPS that the work load gets so overwhelming that the service drops off the chart. To much business will put you out of business to sum it up , except for USPS . Uncle Sam will take care of them , and make sure they keep the crappy service up.

Here are the rates for shipping the average detector. This package I use will fit most detectors comfortable with plenty of protection.
This is the rate I got for the package I am sending tommorrow. Here are the deminsions= weight 7 lbs. , length 28" , width 12" , and height is 8". I have shipped almost all of my detectors in this carton does not matter what brand.
Fed Ex = $7.86 , 3 days , but most of the time its 2 days
DHL = $6.16 , 6 days or less , probably less than .
USPS = $9.70 6 days parcel post , probably be 2 months.
$11.25 priority (LOL) , 2 days , but probably 1 to 4 weeks.

I would suggest to anyone to check rates , as these rates are correct , and my shipping scale is normally a little heavier than Fed Ex , which means I save even more.

I had very good results with USPS and I do a lot of shipping and receiving, for a non commercial person.
There's a lot of things to learn about when shipping, to get top performance.
UPS has earned a reputation for refusing claims because of what they call, improper packaging.
Their own UPS stores charge high rates for packaging and pack very careless.
I had one of their pack jobs, delivered with the bottom of the box open and parts lost. Because it was their packaging they paid, but they don't pay the receiver, it has to be the shipper, so it very inconveinant. If the customer did the packing, it would take an act of God, to collect.
UPS, left a package in front of my garage door. Guess what happened?, The shipper, sent me a new order.
UPS, Fed EX, DHL, all use the post office also, there's a great chance, your package at some point, will be in the hands of the post office.
My only complaint is, as you mentioned, the number you get at the P.O., doesnt' do any good, except to make a claim. They can't tell you where your package is or has been. After 30 days, you can make the claim.
A big plus, that I like with the P.O., is your package moves on holidays and weekends, for no extra charge, plus Saturday delivery, no extra charge.
UPS, gives your package a sun tan on weekends, unless you pay extra for weekend delivery.
If you ship ground or 2nd day air, with UPS, and the weekend in part of the delivery, it sun tans for the weekend.
The only way to get reasonable rates with UPS are to bring it "yourselve" to a UPS hub. If your not commercial and don't have UPS pick up, you'll burn more gas, then any savings you realize, finding one of their hubs.
I stick with the P.O. anytime, over the other common carriers.
I have never worked for either and my post statements are from my own experieces with shipping/receiving from both, for many years.

unfortunately for me, I don't. The only shipping place I have within a 30 mile drive of me is the post office, a UPS store & pack & ship places. I don't particularly care for UPS so, this leaves me with USPS. If someone wanted to deal with me and was stuck on only dealing with UPS, Fedex or DHL, I would mostlikely pass on the deal especially if I'm the shipper. Like I said, I don't want my detectors sitting on someones porch waiting to be stolen.

But I agree, the Post Office do have employees who have attitudes at times, but I can see why they do when you figure the amount of people that they have to deal with all day who also have attitudes. I guess that's why there have been some incidences with postal workers going POSTAL.

I agree , I guess that I am lucky in the way that the Fed Ex and DHL terminals are closer than my local post office. I would however drive the extra and spend the extra if I got good service and packages that looked as they did when I mail them as when they got there , instead of looking like an elephant did a mating ritual on them . But I cant complain as far as Fed Ex or DHL goes , because they have offered great service , great rates , and friendly service. I do however have to live with the USPS , because some that I buy detectors from choose to ship via USPS and do not have the options. I still have to drag myself in the post office for the typical stamps and to mail small parcels that are a better value.

David, I have not traded since our problems with USPS. I feel lucky there was no damage to the detector floating out there in"Trash-it Land"
I still have the Tesoro, works good.

I have had item sent by UPS,USPS, and FedEx and sent items by UPS and USPS and my best luck by far has been the USPS Priority mail. I now sent all my detector this way as 95% of the time I can get a item to the west coast or east coast in 2 to 3 days and the other 5% a day later.
Now on UPS Minelab sends my detector this way and it take 5 to 8 day and the boxes are crushed 50% of the time, so I have ask them to be double boxed so the boxes are in good shape. I remember one detector I got from Al at Discount detectors that took 14 days to get to me from UPS and it was in one terminal for 7 days alone, then there was the one item from Indiana that went to the east coast, then to Utah, the NV, then back to Utah, the Montana and then to ND.
I had a detector sold to a guy in Poland and we wanted the best way to send it. UPS wanted $167 to send it with arrival was 4 to 5 weeks, USPS wanted $63 and said they thought 3 weeks at the most, it was there in 10 days for $100 less and faster.
FedEx items have been sent to me, but seems the drivers cant find my Bar and cafe in a town with 50 people in it for some reason and is sent back to the terminal and they call me for instruction how to get to my business in the main street that is the only business other than a beauty shop.
As you see why I like the USPS and only had one detector Accessory sent to Canada that took over 2 weeks to get there.

the way things are going. I know my town is tripling in size, which is a good thing for the economy, but bad for old timers like me who mish the old days. It used to be Southern Florida was the place to be, now it's central Florida.

David,I wouldn't give up on the US postal service yet.I ship a lot of metal detectors Priority and Global.I feel they beat the compitition in price and service.I have had transactions with you in the pass and everything went very smooth.I have a unit thats being shipped out to Italy today and still have confidence with their service.Ron (ANOTHERDAYATTHEOFFICE)

I got my detector today ( mailed on Oct.27th), only took 13 days , just under half a month and they quote 6 days or less. Imagine that? Tom(Conn) is a wonderful , and understanding person , and the detector was more than expected. The package was actually in good shape to have went through USPS Xtreme Postal Games . I think they leave all my packages on a deserted island , and use their GPS to find it. Kinda like they play Package Survivor , sponsored by USPS. Nice to hear the detector is serving you well Keith. I will not ship anymore with USPS after our nightmare.
HH , David

i have traded a good number of detectors from the us,always via usps airmail or global express(which can be tracked and insured,i have been caught, like most people when i ship any method that cant be tracked and insured..)and usually get my items 9-14 days.ups is just plain outrageous, internationally, same for dhl and fed ex..and i agree with mike, the couple of times someone has sent to me via another method,my package has always been left at the doorstep, when im not home..not impressed with that one :)

Funny how everyone always says UPS and Fed Ex leave their packages at the door step. Well folks , so does USPS. My mail carrier leaves all of them unless it looks like rain. USPS is no exception unless you inform them not to leave them.

i just sent a mxt by ups and a digger he got the digger but not the mxt shipped in 2 boxes. i called ups and they said they were trying to find the box it's been 3 weeks now. i had to refund the guy's money they first said they were not going to pay. now they say they will pay after i had to get nasty about being out of so much money so now they are giving me the run a round . every day they need some sort of proof of what i sold it for . now i will see what happens now . i will never ship by ups again

WOW. I have to say I don't like usps for detectors. UPS at least has a good tracking system and fedex too. Its a lot easier doing a claim with ups then usps too. Just can't believe that detector works!

On detectors you send them insured so someone has to sign for them or they can not leave them, if you mail person is leaving them without being signed for then they can be reported. Also from Expereince if you are going to send USPS it is nice to pay with the USPS Money order if you do ever have to put a claim in for proof of purchase and price paid.
One other thing I have learned with UPS is when you send C.O.D. never accept cash, ask for a Money order or Cashier check as I made the mistake as saying cash was OK. It took 6 weeks from the time I sent the detector untill UPS paid me for the reason I was told is UPS only makes check out once a month to pay for C.O.D they got cash for. USPS ask for a Money order or if you pay cash for it they will make out a Postal Money order that the person sending cash pays for and sent to you with in days.
