Taking my F2 to the beach.

I know it is not designed for long time exposure at the beach but I am going to be on vacation for a week in NC at the end of the month. Any of you guys ever use an F2 at the beech? Just curious if it will go nuts near the wet sand and I will have to stay in the dry or what. Obviously I won't have it out in the water and take the chance of a rogue wave getting it or me. I picked up a cheap metal feed scoop from a local store i am going to drill some holes in for a scoop.

I took my F2 to the beach and it did fine. I did have the 11 inch Double D coil on it at the time. It ran perfect on the dry sand. On the wet sand it would run good at 3/4 sensitivity if I discriminated out iron and foil.It would only false if I hit the coil on the wet sand. I detected a 1/2 inch or so above the sand and even went into the shallow surf and had no problems. I found a bunch of clad and bottle caps mostly as the beach was sanded in. I found a pull tab at 6 inches in the surf. If I turned the disc down it would false a ton over the wet stuff. In the dry sand it went deeper than I was used to digging in normal soil.

Good luck at the beach :)

Its way better than nothing, and better than most! You should be able to give us a good report when you get back as to how it behaved...hit the high sand, right along where the dune grass starts, on either side of a beach entrance, a nice gentle slope for laying a towel, little side trails going up through, etc. generally any area overlooked by the water boys..dont spend too much time analyzing a signal, just scoop it! if you are hitting foil, pulltabs, and bobby pins, thats good! try to get out there very early so you dont burn yourself up or have to hassle with the crowd..take some water, head upwind on your way down the beach, so its at your back on the way home if possible, heading upwind on the start will keep you from getting too far from your vehicle, watch for surface drops and signs of coolers, cigarette butts, towel prints, sunflower seeds, seagull food fights, etc. sweep em quick and move! sort of crouch down and use your knees like springs, swing the detector wide as you can, extend it to its max length, you will be amazed at how different and tough this is! You are pretty much looking for something that was recently dropped, so it wont be too deep, you dont want to be digging any foot deep holes all day with a hand scoop anyway, so the F2 will work just fine. Anyway, thats exactly what I'd do in your shoes...Have a great time!:detecting:
