I see that a lot of you prefer the Knife type diggers over lets say a shovel type.I am so used to the small stainless V shovel I use, and the knife means more sideward (?) movement on the wrist. Is it really better to use a knife type, which involves a sideward strain on the wrist as apposed to useing your weight and pushing downward to cut a plug? scott

I preffer the Lesche 'knife' type of trowel because it can let me cut through the grass as I want (i.e. Horseshoe type of plug), it will cut through roots efficiently and it will cut grass neatly, the only dissadvantage is that it scoops small amounts of soil, so to fix that problem I bought a Treasure Scoop from Jimmy Sierra, it's made from ABS plastic (wears like iron), it scoops large amounts of soil and the scoop won't scratch coins unless you try really REALLY hard, and you can wave the scoop full of dirt in front of your coil to see if the target's there, since it's not metal.

I have a couple of diggers but only use the Lesche. Like Ace said, it doesn't scoop a lot of dirt, but it's great for digging neat plugs. (and it'll never break)
