TDI battery pack question

The TDI batteries that come with the detector are rechargeable. As for using Alkalines or Nimh, well, the run time would be extremely short at best.

Now, the TDI batteries that come with the detector are Li Ion type batteries which require totally different operating requirements if you want them to last for a long time.

One of the worst things you can do is run them down totally until they quit. Also, never use a regular charger to fully charge Li Ion's. Li Ion batteries do not like extremes, either minimal or maximum. In fact, using the extremes will shorten the life of this type of battery. THE LI ION BATTERY IS NOT A NI CAD OR A NIMH AND SHOULDN'T BE TREATED THE SAME AS THE TWO.

In many cases, there is a protective devide installed on a Li Ion pack but it is there as an extereme form of shutdown or limit. Anything above 4.2V shortens the life of the battery considerably and running until the safety shutdown isn't any better.

So, if you want your Li Ion batteries to last, change them when the idiot lights come on telling you they are getting low.

BTW, some guy built up a setup to try to use the lower powered Li Ion AA size and posted it on another forum. Will they work? Yep but the run time will most likely not be much over an hour or so continuous run time.

A better solution would be to buy a 4S single row of the right size LI Ions meaning 4 18650 batteries in series. This will work with the proper connector but will only have a 2 to 3 hour quality run time. High quality batteries might extend this close to an hour.

You will need (2) 4 AA holders and (1) 2 AA holder for total of 10 AA batterys
You will need to solder and connect the holders together
