TDI- Hot rock's

Hobby

New member
Any one know how the new TDI's handle hot rock..........Like in the C.A Sierra's. Thay can be a big problem with VLF's ,I dont know any one who has one.......Thank's Hobby:blink:

Hi Hobby,

I have not hunted where you mentioned, but I have used the GS 5 and the TDI in areas where hotrocks do give problems on VLF's and the TDI as well as the GS 5 generally do an excellent job of ignoring those rocks. There are always exceptions, so there are some rocks to even do sound off on a PI such as some basalt, but many of the rocks that give very strong indications on a VLF such as magnetite ladened rocks usually are ignored. Here in Colorado, there are some strange gray rocks that give VLF fits and those rocks are ignored by the TDI and GS 5 also.

So far, I have not found any other PI or other detector that does as good of a job ignoring hotrocks as the TDI and the GS 5.

I do recommend you try to find someone with a TDI or a GS 5 to test some of the rocks if you can. That way you will know for sure. Hopefully, someone will jump in that has the experience and knowledge you need to answer your question with relative certainty. However, if no one does come forward and you have a couple of the troublesome rocks, if you can send them to me, I will test them for you.

You might also check with your closest Whites dealer to see if they have a TDI in stock and have them test the rocks, if you have a few for testing. I would think they would be interested in the results also.

Thank's Reg; P-I detector's an't cheep and I'd hate to pay out all those $ and be disapointed.....Any more info guys with TDI or Gold Scan?....Hobby

Hot rocks in my area are not detected with either detector. Cold rocks which make a VLF go "boing, boing" are not detected.

That sound's good I don't like them cold rock's eather . By the way do you guy's think the extra fetures you get with the gold-scans are worth the xtra $ if all I plan on doing is nugget hunting fore the most part....Hobby:shrug:
