tejon setup

I must be getting better because now I can turn the sensitivity all the way up and no chatter.
I called tesoro and told them there is no depth difference whether sensitivity is set on two or ten plus it chattered around seven. could not get an even low threshold.
they said the extra sensitivity comes in play if the soil is a little more mineralized. Here is how he told me to set it up .
turn everything off and everything backed off to the left.(threshold) turn in the detector look for a clear spot. turn the threshold all the way up and the sensitivity all the way up pump it up and down with the trigger pulled back.when it is balanced -no pump up volume change and no down pump volume change but even then back off the threshold.
I turn my threshold all the way off and leave disc 1 off but disc 2 on foil.
I can leave the sensitivity all the way maxed out and no chatter. If I just turn the disc 1 on it might chatter very little but most of the time not.

I maybe wrong but you never mention ground adjust (Ground Balance). Sounds to me like you maybe too negative. Read your instructions on set up, set your Tejon just as it tells you. Keep praticing the Ground Balance procedure. It will all make sense wants you do it several times.

That's what I was talking about=pumping the coil up and down meanwhile thumbing the GB control until the tone is the same on the up and well as the down stroke.
My soil is mild and I don't get the chirping that I did before with the sensitivity up all the way.
I just back it down to 2 after is is balanced and turn the threshold all the way down or (off) and I still get the silver half at 10" in my coin garden

most any detector will see a silver half at ten inches, turning the threshold all the way down isn't correct tuning. sounds like you've gotten hold of one of the first Tejon production units... They were known for being hotter and chattery while running in the descriminate mode. you can find out if this is one of those units by contacting Rusty at Tesoro... if this chattering is a problem for you they can readjust it to better suit you.I had one of these first units when they first came out and loved it but kick myself for getting rid of it now. I now have a more recent unit... it's still a good detector but the hotter first production runs were really nice. If you give Rusty the serial number he can tell you if it's one of those units. As far as setup set it up by the manual The threshold should be set to just a hum before ground balancing.
Good Luck!
