Teknetics delta 4000

I bought a used delta 4000 & it works fine (without operator error) ,but I don't understand what is the term "Greek series" means when an add selling a coil says the coil is for the Greek series detectors.

The "Greek" series machines are the Alpha 2000, Delta 4000, Gamma 6000, and Omega 8000. The coils are interchangeable with these machines.

It it because they use the Greek alphabet? Thank you for your answer Bucksport. When you answered my question using 4 machines you listed it appears to be the Greek alphabet.

Yes it is :) I meant to word it like that, but forgot. That is exactly why.
Happy hunting with the Delta. I owned one in the past, and regret trading it off. It is a very capable machine! The pinpoint function is one of the best I have used. Which coil do you use? Acquire all the coils and you should be able to handle any hunting situation thrown at you.

I use the standard concentric coil , I have been pondering a double D coil....I hunt mostly rural land 7 I think the larger double D coil will allow me to cover more ground.

The stock 8" coil works very well on the Delta, and I have tried several different Tek. coils on a few different Delta models. I found the supplied coil to work fine. I have had some problems with accessory coils, and that's due to the fact that the particular model was not calibrated/tuned for the coil used. By 'calibrated' or 'tuned' I am referring to the Ground Balance setting for the coil mounted. Often times a coil might seem to work okay, but a mismatch of a coil and detector with a fixed GB that is off too much can inhibit the detector's performance.

Sometimes, even with a manually GB'ed model or one with an automated GB, there can be differences simply based upon the performance of the detector and the coil size or type. An example is using the Gamma, Omega and G2, all of which have Ground Grab automated GB as well as manual GB. With the 5" DD coil and a few others from FTP the VDI readings are off and Coin Depth is off.

With some preset GB models, such as a Euro-Tek Pro I had, it worked passably well with the stock 8" coil, but with the 5" DD or 11" DD, I wasn't able to get a response to a big silver dollar or some silver halves. The reason? The GB was way off for those search coils. I have experienced this issue with many different brands that have a preset Ground Balance and suspect the Delta might encounter the same challenges. What appears to work OK sometimes might not work well all the time.

Still, the stock 8" coil is pretty versatile as it is for this low-cost model, and if I were to suggest any optional coil, it would be the 5" Double-D. I've found it to be helpful when I hunt closer to metal structures and in heavier trash conditions.

The Delta, while being as a lower-end, lower-priced, turn-on-and-go detector, is still a very good performance and nice value for the dollar.
