Teknetics G2+Ltd Pulsing Threshold

I just purchased a used Teknetics G2+Ltd and used it in my background for the first time today. The nearest power lines are about 1/2 block away. All utilities are buried in my yard and in my neighbor's yards. I was running the gain at 100 (full gain).

I noticed that there was a 'pulsing' of the threshold in all metal mode. I also have a Teknetics G2 and did not notice this 'pulsing' on that machine (or at least, it wasn't nearly as much). I tried reducing the gain and when it was reduced down to around 20 or so, the threshold would 'settle down' for 10 to 15 seconds. But then this 'pulsing' would start to come up even at that gain. Then, if the gain was again increased to 100, the 'pulsing' would extremely severe for about 10 seconds and then would 'settle down' some, but would still be very noticeable.

Here's a YouTube video that I took that shows what this sounds like:

Is this EMI that I'm hearing? Or does this sound more like there might be something not quite 'right' with this detector?

Sounds like emi, a regular pulsing. With buried utilities, you can expect that. I have it at mymplace with all mymdetectors.

Try,going somewhere without biried or overhead utilities. Also, flourescent lights, light dimmers,,cell, phones, can all drive your detector nuts.

Here's a link to the manual.

I suspected that it was EMI. And now it's gone. I tried it out this afternoon, with the detector set up exactly the same as last night, standing in exactly the same location, and the threshold was 'normal' sounding. Guess the EMI in my yard kind of 'comes and goes'. That would explain why I hadn't heard it on the G2 - it just wasn't there, when I was using the G2.

I work in radio communications (for about 40 years) so I'm familiar with all kinds of electromagnetic interference. But, it all sounds different, depending upon what your hearing it on, and exactly what's causing the EMI. I have no experience with EMI on metal detectors, so this is something new for me to learn.

yes sir that's EMI all the way and if you noticed your ID #'s didn't switch around so much either probably I know on my gamma I have a spot that in the woods that is less than a mile away from high tension lines and certain days its worse than others
