Tennis grip for Explorer handle

Neil

Well-known member
I ripped the foam cover on my Explorer and am looking for advice on which tennis wrap to use. I would rather not go to the foam handle again.
Any other suggestions for this are welcome also.

Neil... go to wally world they have them in the tennis section pretty cheap. I put one on mine almost the day i bought it because i didnt how dirt got into the foam. Ive had mine 3 years or so and havent had to change it yet. I like it so well i just put it on the crappy handle of the Xcal as well.

Yep. Those last quite a while. In my tennis playing days I could play all season+ longer than that. Pretty comfortable too.

Seems like the early Explorer grip was just too thin to be functional and now the heavier grip doesn't seem to hold up and many use the tennis grip. My advice talk to some experienced tennis players and get a good one as the extra bucks will be worth the comfort and hold up much longer...My new Explorer SE grip shows some wear after a month and I can see I will be going that route myself..

I wrapped my grip with Scotch rubber splicing tape several years ago and it still looks good. I wrapped it over the foam grip before it got dirty or damaged. It's self fusing / no glue so it's easy to remove with out damaging the grip. You can get it at most hardware stores or electrical supply houses.

I just wrapped the tennis type tape over my foam when it started breaking and have been fine since. Very comfortable as well.

I did this on my E-Trac, used wound tape first so then wrapped with padded vinyl bicycle handlebar tape it is simple to clean and is comfortable.

Finally found the scotch splicing tape at Home Depot last night and does a super job...Two month Explorer SE handle grip was starting to show signs of wear and just wound it over the stock grip. Inexpensive and works great and actually feels better with a little more bulk to the grip...
