I went up to northeast Alabama for my biannual hunting and fishing trip. I decided to take some time to do some metal detecting on a old wagon road that cuts through some woods near the cabin. I found around a dozen old shotgun shell brass, a bunch of buckshot, several 22 bullets, part of a lantern, a brass wedding band and what looks to be a kid's toy dog. I was using the 8 inch doughnut coil and running minimum discrimination. I got a few hours of detecting in before dark. My uncle saw my finds when I got back to the cabin and decided to go and get his Minelab 305 that he got several years ago. It was his first detector and he never used it because he was having trouble figuring out how to operate it. Well the next day I gave him a few lessons and we headed out to an old school to do some detecting. I found around $8 dollars in clad coins using the Outlaw and he found around $2 dollar worth of clad. He's hooked. Which is a good thing, because he know most of the people in that town and can get us permission to detect around a bunch of old houses and buildings that were built over a hundred plus years ago the next time I go back.
