Tesoro Sidewinder Question!!

Well-known member
Guys I had one of these a long time ago and absolutely loved it!! That thing was a coin magnet. Like an idiot I got rid of it and now wish I had another, but these things are scace and if you do happen to find one people want way to much for them! What would you say is the closest thing in today's Tesoro line that's close to it? Let me know what you guys think! Later 88junior

Hi Junior, yeah for sure on the Sidewinder. Wish I had some idea of a $ for you but I don't.Do a look on the ebay sales "completed "list for used Tesoros and you may get lucky and find one that sold recently. Tuff one to run down. ! Good luck and HH, Charlie

Junior,

This is a tough one it's kind of a cross between a cibola and a silver umax. Cibola has additional threshold. But silver has no pinpoint, just an all metal mode. So it really a tough call.

I have the cibola and love it. The threshold gives me aprox depth by swinging over a target. If its quiet the target is small or very deep, if loud the target is large or close to my coil. Again its not a perfect science but it nice to get an idea.

it also lacks a little. The Cibola doesn't have a traditional Threshold-based All Metal mode to search in, just a threshold-based All Metal Pinpoint mode that is momentary (while you press the PP button). The Cibola Discrimination does adjust a little lower than the Sidewinder.

Hi Monte, I have often wondered what the Sidewinder could be compared to. Cibola is being given some really high praise, so your comparison is good to hear.. I have a couple of Sidewinders I reacquired from my Grandkids. They never really took interest in them and now that they are in college I thought I would put the machines back to work now and then. One of the Sidewinders survived being submerged when Katrina put at least 5'of Gulf water through my daughters house. It was over 2 weeks before I was able to attempt it's salvage, but I was successful, and the Sidewinder worked fine up until about a year ago when one of the knobs cracked and I sent it back for some maint. Tesoros are Tuff!. I always felt that when the Silver Saber was dropped that those Silvers (been a couple I think) replacing it never quite filled it's slot. S. Sabers are rare now too, and that tells us something.. Can't say from experience about the Replacements , but they are praised highly too. I never used any of them, but did use my Shadow X2, which I think is Bro. to the S.Saber, and I love it.Here lately I am enjoying revisiting some of my oldies that have been gathering dust, and discovered that my Amigo II (and Compadre) finds goodies "behind" any machine I choose to hunt with. After only recently discovering that and having so much fun, I remembered all the good hunts I had with the Inca. Well, there are even more oldies than the Inca for me to dust off, so I'm doing like many of the old diggers now and spending some time on Memory Lane. Lol, having fun, and that's what diggin is all about. HH, Charlie
