I just got back from a hunt and thought I would share the Silver's audio response with you that I find is so great and fun to use. For the video I set the discrimination just a tad above 'iron' so you can hear the crackling and popping better. You can set the discrimination at 'iron' or just below and get the same crackling and popping sounds, but they won't be as pronounced. That's where I to run it. On each of the targets I start off close and then raise the coil higher and higher as I sweep it. Coins and rings audio responses usually just fad away without any crackling and popping. Can slaw and foil caps will crackle and pop.

This is one amazing detector! Its audio response is loaded with information.

Yes on a few that I have used, but not as well as it does on the Silver uMax.

Yeah=some use the alternative method of whipping the coil past the target with similar results.

I haven't used the Silver, but this seems to be the same concept as with my Compadre. My Compadre, likes consistent tones, with meat in the middle. Popping, usually... no, almost always means, it's trying to discriminate. Even if the signal's weak, if there's no popping, I will dig.

Thanks for your helpful tips, i think I might try to translate these settings to my new Silver Sabre for the test drive. Unfortunately it doesn't have word designations like the newer models just numbers. I will play with it a bit though.

Setting the Compadre between iron and foil will cause similar reactions.

delivery boy, practice a bit with the Silver Sabre making note at which numbers the different targets disc out. In the field, I ususally pass my coil over a nickle and set the disc to where the nickle gives a good, solid tone and then start hunting. With a bit of practice you'll remember where tabs, zinc pennies etc. disc out when you thumb the knob. And any time you aren't quite sure or get a tone that doesn't match what you've become used to, dig. Often enough you'll get a pleasant surprise, rather than trash.
