I found myself wanting to spin the disc, notch and sens. I am much too new to this, so I composed myself and did what all of you told me to do. I left the disc and about 10:00, notch all the way counterclockwise and sens in auto. Although the ground was frozen solid I had a great time. I found my very first treasure ( at least to me ) a 1905 IH penny. IT MADE MY DAY!
I thought if I had a good book on Sov I would be able to make reference and then experiment rather than do it blindly. I know it just takes time in the field and playing with it, but until spring gets here I want to know as much about this machine as possible. I feel like I own a race car with a learners permit.
As always, I want to thank you ALL for your help.
