That buckle again

I've posted this on a few different forums trying to find out what it could have been used for but so far no luck. Got it 4 years ago on a spot where the majority of finds dated 1780 to 1830. Its 1 1/8" long and 7/8" across at the squared end. Hand made of unmarked gold but it tested as 21-22K. There were rust stains at the side holes when I dug it so it had an iron pin. I posted it on a watch forum last year and was told definitley not a watch buckle. Any ideas?
Thanks & Stay Warm, Chris

You may as well assign it as an unclassified strap buckle. That type is a tough one to tell.

I'm no expert on buckels, but it appears to be the buckel of the old dutch colonial style shoes from the days of the mid 1700's - 1800's. Try a web search on those kinds of shoes and you'll probably find it.

this is a slightly different style on these shoes but it gives you an example <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> they made the buckels in different shapes and sizes as well
