The 4000 and 6000 ???

Well-known member
Hi All, How much defiance's is there in the two detectors? I had a 4000 and like it for quick hunts, i see the 6000 has manual ground balance. Is that the only thing that is defiance in them? I like the ground grab but the 4000 did very well in my dirt. Is it worth the extra money for the 6000 ? I used to see some for sale on here but not anymore. Are they that good that everyone is keeping theirs? Thanks for any help, Flintstone

Dave J says that the 6000 and the 8000 (Omega) have the same circuit board but the lcd read out is different and the buttons are different. The 6000 is a big step up from the 4000 (although the 4000 is a great machine).

The Delta, and all of the four 'Greek Series' models, can be handy for quick hunts out coin shooting. All four of them have a quick -response and a decent audio response.

The Delta (4000) is a simple turn-on-and-go with a preset Ground Balance. The Gamma (6000) has both an automated Ground Balance (using Ground Grab) as well as manual G.

The Delta (4000) has VDI numbers, but the Discrimination is a segmented type, while the Gamma (6000) has a variable adjustment by numeric reference that allows more fine-tuning.

I personally opted for the Omega (8000) over the Gamma, although they are very lose in performance. The Delta is a good model to have on had, too, as I do to use it more as a "loaner unit" for family, friends and consumers.

Of the two you ask about, the Delta is a very good entry-level unit, but I find the Gamma and Omega to be better for more serious hunting due to the improved Disc. adjustment as well as their ability to fine-tune the Disc. setting as well as adjust to the ground environment I am hunting. With models that have a Volume control, make sure it is set at the maximum setting for peak performance.

They share the same search coils and both can satisfy most detector operators, but the Gamma is the more flexible or versatile. The answer really gets down to what features to you want or not want? I hunt a lot of different ground environments and prefer to have an auto-mated or manual GB model.

Thanks Guys, for the info, I just wanted something that i could keep in the van and not worry so much about. I gave the Delta that i had to a friend that sugar and needs to get out and walk. I told him by detecting he will feel better. Thanks Flintstone
