<img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> All of our coils for the minelab are dd, which are great for coverage, minerals, bad soil etc...however in good soil and lots of trash I'm wondering if some of the deepies are being masked by the dd coil. Since the "cone" of detecting as far as area diminishes the deeper you go, with a concentric coil, it would seem that you could possibly pick out a few deepies the dd will miss...just a thought. I wouldn't want to use such a coil as a main coil becuse its coverage sucks compared to the dd. But it migh make a great coil on those areas we've hammered to death.

Basically a DD coil the area right down the center is the hot spot and works sort of like a windshield wiper to cover ground. I think some of those adds showing a bunch of arrows going coil to coil may be a little deceiving so a DD coils handles masking quite well. Do read my post above finding a silver dime laying on a rusty nail and you will understand the abilities of an Explorer. Certainly no tech. but really don't know if a concentric could be made to work on an Explorer..

I did a field test on the Concentric coil and you are right as far as picking coins out of trash. In my test it did better then the DD. The concentric handled the mineralization with no problems in my soil. The DD is suppose to handle minerals better then a concentric though. The depth for an 8 inch coil was very impressive.

sides you can always use a sniper coil for high trash areas if you think it's worth it.
