The Cowboy ropes 'em in.

Went out this AM to a house built in 1901. The first signal was a Wheat. Then a '52 Roosevelt, then a 1908 V nickel and 6 more wheats. Oh baby, we found the lost herd!! Really had hopes of some barber coinage, but alas,no. By the time I broke for lunch I had gotten the above, plus a '36 buffalo, costume ring, small snuff box(?) with 4 little stones(big one was missing), 3 quarters,2 nickels, 2 dimes and 83 memorials. Yea, 83.
Ouch,my back aches. And of course assorted odds and ends.

Oh, I forgot. It seemed as though some of the plugs I dug had been precut, but I was pulling coins out of them. While I was there, one of the neighbors came to see what I was up to. Said he thought he had seen me there before. Nope, not me I said. But that confirmed what I was thinking. Obviously, whoever was there before me, wasn't using a TESORO!

Nice Bill...you definitely have it down now. Especially if it was hunted before!

Nice hunt BillF

....83 pennies, wow !....makes my knees ache just thinking about that. At least you got some nice old coins, good job:thumbup:

Thanks guys, I'm sure there is more there, but honestly, my back couldnt take it anymore today.
Now tomorrow......

That's some really nice old coins you found.

Awsome and just the other day we were talking about that Buffalo I found:biggrin: Man that is an awsome hunt. That Vaquero is a beast. I just love mine. I hope you go back there and clean up.:)

I posted what I thought was a snuff box missing a big stone. Well, I dont think thats what it was. I found the box and 30 feet away I found a St. Christopher. As I was showing my wife the box and wishing I had known what it was at the time so I could look in the hole for the stone, she picked up the St.Chris. I noticed it sure looked about the right size. I set it in the spot where the "stone" went and sho'nuf it fit.
Wierd, but true. What are the odds. Now I'm thinking that maybe it held rosary beads???

In all the stuff I found today, there was a slug about the size of a penny. It looked different, looked almost like copper,so I saved it. A few minutes ago I cleaned and scrubbed and even used some 400 grit sandpaper. Turned out to be an 1859 Indian Head. Someone punched it in the middle and its in lousy condition, but you can make out the date and barley see the Indian with part of America at the top. Dont know if the picture shows well.

Wouldnt you know it, finally find a key date coin and it looks like this.

Sounds and looks like you had a great hunt. I bet you can't wait to hunt that spot again!

Hey Matt, not sure how much is still there. I am going to get back there, should do it soon.

Man. I wish I had spots like that to hunt. Keep us updated I live vicariously through your hunts. :)

Mike, I work for the city and spend ALOT of time driving through town. I constantly look for boarded up and foreclosed old homes. Then I get online with the assesors office to see when it was built and if its bank owned. If bank owned, I hit it. Get in, get out. Dont leave a trace you were there. We have a bunch of 115 year old parks and schools here, but also more detectors than I've ever seen, so I dont have much hopes finding much in them. Thats why I do the old homes, and ask permission when folks live in them.
You can do the same where you live, it increases your finds considerably. HH.

Michael, I dont mean to make it sound sneaky about getting in and out quickly, but I have found when it is bank owned, you will never talk to anybody that will be willing to give permission. They dont understand what you are doing. It probably wont get farther than a clerk.
If you know the home is really old and vacant, and you dont have internet access to your county assesor, quite often a vacancy notice will be posted in the window or on the door. The yard will be weedy and over grown, I figure if I dont make a mess searching, who's going to care? My wife is in law enforcement and all the cops I know say they wouldnt look twice at me.
I do hope it helps, Good luck!

you did better in one hunt than i do al year , but I have not got to try the outlaw yet ,

Gunnar, me thinks you are pulling my leg! Get out there with that Outlaw! I want to see what you find. And compare it to your Blisstool, I'm curious about some of the other detectors from people that have both.

That had to be a surprise to find that indian. When I found my first one with the V I thought it was a penny. It's so badly corroded though you can only make out the indian. Can't wait to see what else you find

Hey AS,
I think there is more there. Will have to get back soon. This is one of those bank owned houses that is just sitting in limbo. Not for sale and barely being taken care of. Biggest problem is someone was in there before. I don't think they knew what they were doing because so many of their plugs still had coins in them. But, they might have gotten some good silver, even a blind pig finds a truffle once in a while.
