"The Look"

but just remember that I never told Daddy that you and Wylie Vaughn were riding his super 90.....you got yourself caught before I could. That would have cost you a dollar at least ILY

plus a son, I'm sure you had "the look" on more than one occasion. I have three daughters, and no sons until I married Scott, and I inherited a fourth daughter, and the two boys. Then God gave me four grandsons, and finally a granddaughter! They are all so special, that's for sure!
Have a good evening!

I know EXACTLY what that "look" is you described. It is hard to put it in words to define it but for me it was a combination of sadness, pride, fear, worry, jealousy and a few other emotions all at once.It was a realization that my baby girl was all grown up and would soon be leaving the nest.A flood of memories from the time she was born thru the bedtime stories, first day of school baby dolls and bicyles to the prom.
I am a big guy and looking back realize it must of been pretty intimidating for some of the young boys who called on my daughter.I have a wonderful son-in-law (they have been happily married for 10 years) and I often tease him by telling him he was the first boy who ever called on my daughter that I couldn't scare off....
I will never forget the moment when they timidly approached me to announce that they wanted to get married.Later on that night I got my son-in-law alone and had a little man to man talk with him.Among other things I promised him that if he ever abused her for any reason that I would break him into several small pieces.........
He is a great guy and I am very proud of them both.Although they married young in the 10 years they have been married both have earned college degrees and have great jobs.PLUS they have presented my wife and I with 2 of the most prescious things on earth-Gabe age 7 and Ben age 4.
Sorry for being so long winded Linda. Thanks for a great post.

Thanks so much for such an endearing story!
These kids grow up ENTIRELY too fast as far as I'm concerned...and I don't like it one bit! Hmmmm. I suppose I'll have to 'get over it' and get on with my life...but I STILL won't like it.
One day Cristin will really cherish this very story. Don't you wish we had been writing stories all along??????
Love you muchly, <><

As usual, it is written from your heart. Our children grow up so fast, here today, gone tomorrow!
It was not too many years ago that my son graduated from High School and entered college. Several weeks after he left home, on my way to bed, I passed his room. I stood there for a minute or two, thinking to myself..."my son is gone!" With a heavy heart, I went back down stairs and sat at the kitchen table for about an hour. It had finally sunk in that my boy was grown and had left home to make a life of his own...it hurt so much! It took me several days to get over the sad feelings, to accept the hard cold facts of life in this matter. I think that what I experienced is normal, and Scott may be in the early stages of this type of situation. The sadness will pass, and you discover that you still have the love of your child, and that they are still a part of your life, just live in different houses. I loved your story, please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)

your family is SO lucky!

dealt a few blows in the past two years. I guess the first one was like you, when Nathan went off to Virginia to college. He moped around for weeks. So, I guess it doesn't really make a lot of difference whether it's a son or daughter, but somehow I think father's accept their son's leaving a bit better than their daughters. Scott drove all the way to Ft. Benning, Georgia this past summer, in hopes of spending the weekend with Nathan. However, one of the kids in his unit messed up, so they punished his whole platoon. The only time they got to see each other was Sunday morning, during church service. Of course they couldn't talk at all. Then after church the drill sergeant gave them ten minutes, and Scott turned around and drove all the way home! Sometimes, watching them grow up is hard!

find you to be a great uncle, and she will get anything out of you that you can give her! She is gorgeous, what is her name? She's gonna be a heart breaker for sure!
