The old man and the van

Hope no one minds the telling of a treasure type story. A waitress at a diner related this story to me - said she once lived in Pennsylvania - a garage mechanic friend of hers there told her about an old man who had his beat up old van break down on him while traveling thru the area - said they had the van towed to the garage and the old man was put up in a motel for a few nights - said it was determined that the van was broken down beyond any reseasonable repair - said the old man was helped out by the purchase of a bus ticket to Florida where apparently some distant family lived - said that the old man left everything in the van to the mechanic for a his help - inside the van was found several old metal detectors and many jars of coins, some old. Now that old man was living his life the way he wanted to live it and that's what I like about the story, except I hated to hear about his bad luck with the van. Someday hopefully soon I would like to experience that same lifestyle as I consider living in a house the same as being in a birdcage full of twinklets. So...if you ever see TheOldMan someday traveling thru your area stop and say hello and check and see if his van is running okay.

By dang, I think a lot of us are having that very same dream, or retirement plan! Follow the seasons, do odd jobs on the side when you hit a nice little town, metal detect, fish, ...Yep, thats the ticket! Sure beats sitting in a retirement home playing bingo.
