The PLATYPUS - don't get too excited yet !

I thought you might like to have a sneak preview of the new COILTEK Platypus coil for the Explorer / Quattro.
The coil is in the prototype testing stage right now, however, here are a few of the highpoints.
This coil is a DD elliptical, measuring 11 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches.
The coil is completely waterproof, and weighs only 20 ounces. We are even working on getting that weight down a bit.
Whether we go into full production will depend on what our field testers tell us in the way of feed back.
The results of field tests in Australia have been great.
We will have to see what our American experts say!
Here's a picture of the prototype.

What do you think ?

I really like the way the Joey works and this one will cover more ground and go deeper I would think.

Known me I will have one when they come out as I have to try the differnt coils and this one looks like a real winner. I love my Joey and this one reminds me of it,but a bit bigger and I bet more depth.
Let us know when availible so we can order one.

I have most of the coils and i am happy with each. so i can see me making the move to this one too. keep us posted on its field test results, pleeeeeese. Seeyallater ..........................Ed

I just posted 2 weeks ago that I will likely buy a Wot again, but if Coiltek ever made a 12" I would buy it. I might like the idea of a 11.5" x 8.5" even better. Come on Spring! <img src="/metal/html/clap.gif" border=0 width=20 height=30 alt=":clap">

DOC,
Looks good. Is it basically a smaller and lighter WOT? You said the coil weighs 20 ounces. What is the weight of the stock 10.5" coil? Also, what type of performance gains have been realized with this coil over the stock? When is this coil expected to be available and what is the price?
Thanks,
Todd

If I buy another new and improved coil. My wife will not only get the house, but my Minelab detectors also. So what good is an improved coil on a stick going to do, being homeless and destitute?

Haven't weighed the stock coil, and I don't know the answers to your other questions.
Performance is what the field testing is all about. Performance determines whether we go into production.
Production determines the price after we see what kind of labor and materials are involved in mass producing the coil.
See, I told you not to get excited, and what happens, you go and get all excited ! GEESH !

Hello Doc,
If I may give some feedback. Can you please tell Coiltek to design the coil rod bracket on the coil to allow full movement (swinging front to back) on the Explorer 2 lower rod. My WOT developed a deep notch on the bracket where the lower rod ate into it. I fold my coils when I store them (imagine folding the lower rod so that the coil and rod are flat as a pancake). I have since retro fitted the WOT with a XS lower rod which does not do the same. I would think allowing for full movement of an EX2 lower rod would be a good thing.
Rgds, Juan
P.S. Sign me up for a Platypus.
